Way to dribble your tiny dick syndrome on everyone. Big man.
If you can do the same job at home as you can in the office you have an employee problem, not a work from home problem. Which means, they are also dicking around at work even with you micromanaging them.

Remote working isn't the problem.
Lazy employees who take advantage of remote work situations to screw off and incompetent employers who don't have the backbone to discipline lazy employees and instead punishing that whole company workforce are the problem.
No idea why this is getting downvotes.
I’ve been completely remote for six years, so way before COVID. The OP comes off as a bitter, WFH-hating jackass who can’t lead adults without babysitting them, but he has a point. He doesn’t take it seriously because a lot of people doing it don’t take it seriously. COVID forcing people who had no business working remote into it kinda did make that worse.

I've got no dog in this fight but always enjoy these threads. OP may very well be a shitty boss but I'd also say that the majority of work from homers aren't nearly as productive as the imagine themselves to be.
To the OP, I'd just respond with something like "No worries, we can manage without you' or some other subtle jab to remind them how non-essential they are.

If they are good employees that get their jobs done, why not?
I WFH and sure there are days I’m lazy and don’t get shite done. But others I’m working way past the time I would if I was in the office.

Obviously they’re bad employees managed by a bad manager

You give people an inch, they'll take a mile. My biggest issue when I became a manager was understanding not everybody takes personal responsibility or ownership. They all do not have drive. My work ethic is not theirs.

Its understood at my job, we don’t even have to ask.

Sounds like they aren’t paid great, otherwise they would be willing to do this for you and the company. Give them all 50% raises and report back el cheapo.

I WFH and work harder than last jobs that were in office. All about the worker.

My company tried to phase us going back into the office and productivity massively dropped. Instead of 9-10 hour days with no lunch break, you went back to getting 8 hours days with an hour lunch break.
It was funny to me, people scheduling all these meetings during lunch or near the end of the day.
"Where is so and so", oh they all went to get Mexican.
"Where is so and so", had to leave to get little Johnny to tee ball practice.
They shut down in office and sold our building

Do people not eat or take kids to tee ball practice if they work from home?

It amazes me what people do or try today that would’ve never been considered a few years ago. Americans are lazy and need to be kicked in the arse.
I would never even think to ask my boss to work from home over something stupid like rain outside. If he wants to give me that option, he’ll let me know. Me asking is basically saying, “I feel like being a lazy arse and not coming to work on a Thursday. Can I screw off?”
The fact that people think it’s acceptable to ask to stay home and not use PTO for reasons like:
- rain
- I didn’t sleep well last night
- my dog is sick
- etc
I’ve never seen a weaker generation in my life. When did all these request become acceptable when a few years ago they would’ve never existed?

People typically do not go anywhere to eat lunch while WFH. I eat at my desk daily. When in the office, people often go in groups and grab lunch which will take up at least an hour of the day.
Yes, if I need to get my daughter to practice at 5:30. I can WFH, and work a full day to get her there on time. If I'm at the office, I would be leaving at 4 to get her there on time. Commutes, traffic, etc.
I agree that WFH changed how we work, if you have the right employees it is for the better. Companies got used to high productivity and higher availability, then wanted butts in the seats and the same productivity and availability. Doesn't work that way.

Not every situation is the same, not every company needs an office.
