Great Southern Brood would be a fine name for a band.

Think about the billions of cicadas that are buried under Walmart parking lots and will not be able to emerge, dying a slow and painful death.

Now we know that the election was stolen if Trump loses.

I enjoy summertime cicadas. It’s part of summer.

This. The sound takes me back to my youth. I don’t understand why people are annoyed or disturbed by them.

All I know is that the last house I owned had a population of Cicada Killers. During cicada season, they would be thick in the back yard carrying knocked out/dead cicadas back to their holes in the ground.

I never got used to them because at a certain time of year they were always buzzing you. They look like a HUGE Hornet. And though I've never been stung by one, they say if you ever provoke one enough to sting you, it will be something you'll remember.

Me too. I find the sound relaxing now. It makes me think of the days when I played baseball into the evening hours to the sound of the cicadas.

How will this affect crawfish prices?

I see the red states outnumber the blue states by quite a bit.

They get really loud at our house bc surrounded by dense forest. The entirety of Upstate SC is a red blob on that map. Good camping noises.

These will replace your crawfish this year. It'll be tough for the crawfish farmers.

I was at my sister’s house in Maryland outside of DC about 3 years ago for my nephew’s HS graduation. The party was inside and outside and those damn things were so loud that it made normal conversation difficult. It was insane how many they had and how loud they were even during daylight. They don’t just come out at night like the ones here.

It’s a smaller species of cicada but there are millions of them.

Billions of cicadas from two different broods will emerge this spring in a rare, buzzy natural phenomenon that hasn’t happened since 1803.

I was 10 when I heard my first cicadas. I had lived in Hawaii until that time. My grandfather in Texas was dying of cancer and I had not seen him since I was 2. So, I was bowling in a summer rec program and was picked up mid-game to head to Texas. When we arrived, I remember hearing all the Cicada and seeing the brown shells on the trees. My grandfather's room was out on a screened in porch so you could hear the Cicada noises all night.

So, when I hear them, I sometimes think about my grandfather.
