I don’t think a new set is warranted by any means…is there a decent source for used clubs?

Right handed, 6’1” or so.

Beginner, but plays…want him to be able to use them for a few/couple of years.

Anything need real fitting?

Has little to do with anything re: clubs.

Encouraging me to stick with golf was one of the best things my dad ever did. It's a sport/hobby I can do for the rest of my life and being a pretty good player has been great for professional and social life from college into my 40s.

So just get him some good clubs you cheap arse. He doesn't need PXGs but a good set of irons will last him a decade.

Buy him a fishing pole instead. You asked.

I would include a Bluetooth sub woofer he can play on the course. One that everyone can hear. It’ll help pass the time during a 5 hour round that should take about an hour.

Just get a set of few year old cavity backs. Doesn’t matter the brand if he’s just a beginner

Find used clubs on GolfWRX. Standard length is fine for 6’1”

Yeah, just bite the bullet. It's worth it.

Used golf clubs for a 17 year old are everywhere for cheap. Good $100 sets are all over the place. Good sets.
That is one category like many others such as musical instruments and even cars.
Golf is exactly like music as to enjoyment first then dedication to practice. Don’t buy a $2,000 Les Paul to learn Smoke on the Water for a month.

Mine were given to me by a golfer friend 20 years ago after he wore out the grooves. They’re Ben Hogans and awesome…but worn. I don’t own a driver. I hit an old 3 wood from the tee…but well enough.

I have one of those Sunday bags that are made to carry…he needs a set of clubs.

Ideally something he could travel with…but I’m not sure that’s a thing.

Sounds silly but check facebook marketplace, I've seen some decent sets on there with cheap prices. Usually it's someone who has a couple of newer sets and needs to get rid of some.

I’ll try to figure out what Facebook market place is…because I live in a big golf area and that could probably be very good. I’d love to get a whole kit and let him replace as needed.

FB Marketplace for local deals to you or callowaypreowned.com. They are based out of Texas and you probably can get them delivered in two days. Buy him a set of cavity back irons in your price range.

You can go now and buy new sets that are a couple years old, Ping 425, Taylormade Sim2max etc.. for several hundred off what they were when they were new or you can buy used sets that are a couple years old. Take the savings and get lessons for him, after he shows interest and seems to be progressing with his game you can decide if you want to get him fitted for a set. Believe it or not, it does make a difference but it will cost you some serious cash. My son got fitted and his driver was $1,000 with $450 of that the shaft. I ended up spending close to $4,000 for the set he has now. Titliest TSR2 driver, and 3 wood with Ventus Blue 6S Velecore shaft, Titliest 4 hybrid with Mitsubishi Black Sshaft, Taylormade P790 with KBS C taper lite shafts, 52, 56, 60 Cleveland RTX 6 and a Scotty Cameron Putter and a new Titliest Legends bag. It's a lot of money but he play competitively in High School and in some LJGA summer tournaments and plans on playing in College. If it weren't for that, I would not have spent that kind of money on clubs, I bet I haven't spent that much money on all of the clubs I've bought for myself over the years.

My son is going to to kick footballs in the SEC and it’s a hobby that lots of kickers enjoy. He’ll get NIL money to buy a real set of clubs…but he has at least a couple of years until he has that real first fitting. He’s a Jr now.

I want to buy him a legit set of clubs…something inspiring to get him out there. I’d throw some money into a driver, but not what you have. Kicking and golf are strangely connected…like step brother sports of sorts.

I’ll check the links here and ask him to ask his friends what he should get.

They’re giving NIL money to kickers?
