They give a base NIL stipend to every scholarship football player.

You have to make local deals once you do something worth talking about on the field though. Playing golf with business owners could actually help with that. Did for the last guy.

Used golf sets are everywhere.

Or buy the new Costco stuff. They’ve got irons, driver, wedges, and putter now. Could fill out an entire bag

I started golfing 3 years ago with the Callaway Edge set from Costco. It was like $499 and I used it for a couple of years before upgrading everything except the 5 hybrid. It was good for me because it was a name brand, had everything I needed minus balls/glove/bag. And I didn't drop thousands of dollars before knowing that it was a hobby that would stick.

Other options around that price range are Callaway Preowned and 2nd swing for used stuff. You could also go the Maltby route if you want new at golfworks.com. I have a couple wedges and some irons from them and they are great if you aren't trying to break the bank.

Spend 10x money on lessons than on equipment- go to eBay and get a used Taylor made set - find the best teacher in your area - invest weekly lessons till end of summer - then allow the instructor to guide on when to get new clubs

There’s a course very close, not sure there’s a teaching pro there…he could definitely benefit from instruction.

For $325 (4-PW), these are a ridiculous deal for new clubs for a new golfer that could easily last him 5-10 years or more. Large and forgiving clubheads with KBS Tour shafts, medium topline and offset. Originally listed around $800-$900 when they came out. I've swung them a couple times and they're much better quality than the all-in-one box sets you'd find for around the same price. I would purchase the single GW as well though since they're stronger lofted like everything these days.
