Endymion Question

We are staying downtown and going to the Extravaganza that night. We have some friends that will be setting up all day in Mid city on the parade route. We would like to hang out with them during the day. Will we be able to get an uber from mid city to downtown if we leave before the parade gets to them or is it best to just stay downtown?

just walk... you'll be fine.

Probably not. It'll take a while.

That will be extremely difficult. The city is a logistical nightmare that day.

Leaving Mid City is a shite show during Endymion. Last year, we were in traffic for an hour + just to get across canal to get to Carrollton and then took Earhart to get back to Old Metairie

It may be possible, if you're able to walk several blocks away from the corner of Canal and Carrollton.
Another option is to use the blue bike rentals and bike to and from downtown to midcity.

Your best bet is to just stay at home

Sounds like a nightmare scenario

Good luck making it out alive

Just walk along the parade route, unless ya'll physically can't.

Yea, definitely do this
ETA You absolutely will be able to get an uber to get you from downtown to mid city, but it'll be expensive and you'll have to do a little walking to get close to the route and possibly again getting back to your hotel.

Mardi Gras is bike or walk season

It shouldn't be hard to get there or back if you aren't hanging out for the parade. You may have to walk a few blocks away to get an uber but it shouldn't be too hard.
Also you can always walk the route back.

That is a huge risk. Because they start to close off streets and Uber drivers that day usually only stay in same are for drop off and pick up. Stay downtown and avoid the stress of trying to get back downtown to change into your formal attire.
Even if you were able to get an Uber, it would cost you. Not worth it.

Member for 20 years, so I can tell you I’ve had spouses and friends hang out on Orleans during the day and leave prior to the parade, to head downtown to our hotel to get dressed, on numerous occasions. I’ve never asked how long it took them or how they got there, I just show up and they’re there. But to answer part of your question, yes, it’s possible. I don’t think the doors open until 630 anyway. You’ll have plenty time if you plan accordingly.

Did it last year. Can confirm.

Tried this last year. Caught the uber but, we only moved a couple of blocks in 20 minutes. Ended up getting out and catching one of the guys riding a 3 wheeler to take us to the ball. Caught one back to the hotel afterwards too.

Pro-Tip: Hire one of the gentlemen riding 4 wheelers rather than Uber. They don't have to obey traffic laws and always arrive on time.

Your success will also depend on if your uber driver has any fricking clue how to get around on parade days. I've had to coach a few of them.
