Why not move BI for Murray and Okongwu if you’re planning on moving him in the off-season anyway?
I get what you're saying but realistically there's zero chance Griff moves BI before the deadline.

If he goes, it'll be an offseason deal.

Ingram is more likely to retire here than be traded at the deadline

Also I think the appeal of Murray is its reasonable to get him without giving up BI. So if you do happen to move on from BI this offseason, you would still have Murray and the assets you would get from trading BI in the offseason. Murray is almost reasonable insurance for BI at a discounted price in a slow trade market.

Also, why settle for Murray/OO when you can get Murray than dangle BI for potentially a much better center than OO?

I guess the question is what other assets would you be adding along with JV in order to get Murray, versus what center can you get by trading BI in the off-season.

I think you add Dyson and picks- if they ask for Herb hang up.

If you’re trading herb for Murray, who is sacrificing shots?

There’s not enough shots to go around between CJ Murray BI and Zion.

If CJ is sacrificing shots, then he becomes WAY too overpaid to be a 4th option.

Zion shouldn’t be sacrificing shots, he’s our best player. If anything he needs more shots.

If BI is giving up shots then just trade him for Murray because he isn’t a great off ball player or a defender.

This, which overall is low risk imo

I mean there’s enough shots for Kawhi, PG, Harden and Westbrook. Also for Tatum, Brown, Jrue and KP as well. I don’t think this should be a reason we don’t trade for Murray.

The trickier question is: who is finishing games? Especially once Trey gets his groove back.

Westbrook is coming off the bench scoring 11 ppg and makes like 5 million.

Boston can do it cuz those guys all play defense. CJ taking less shots while making +30m doesn’t help because he’s not helping you on defense like Jrue who is giving up shots in Boston

Because they want Herb.

Nobody in the NBA wants Dyson

Im not a huge Dyson guy but thats not true. Great defensive player who struggles offensively but also is 20 on his rookie deal. Compared to guys like Russell and Dinwiddie especially with their contracts- Dyson is preferable.

Teams want Dyson but I’m sure Atlanta specifically wants Herb because he’s currently a better player.

Or maybe Griff sniffed around and decided he doesn’t like Murray’s off court stuff. Who knows.

Every non contender team in the NBA should want a guy like Dyson. Buy low on an elite defender, no reason not to.

of course they would, why wouldn’t they. You’re just not gonna trade a guy like Murray for him (and other stuff). He is is a throw in right now not a deal maker

and before anyone says “he was the #8 pick”, that ship has sailed the second he was drafted. Right now he’s just a guy
