Well said man. I haven’t seen really any negative responses about Tupelo so it seems like it passes the OT test which is extremely rare.
Like you said sure it’s nice to have museums and zoos in town but ask anyone who has access they probably go once a year at most. You can get your city fix on a weekend trip to any city.
Memphis being kind of nearby has its pros. Seems like you can do what you need to do there and get back home. 2 hr drive ain’t bad. It’s close but not too close where the cons leak over into your community.

Yep. They're all better than Tupelo.
What exactly makes these coastal towns better than Tupelo? Proximity to better beaches and Louisiana doesn’t count. I’m talking strictly town vs town.
Again I love Ocean Springs and the coast as a whole. Just curious why you believe it’s better

It’s also not far from Huntsville and Birmingham. Which can get you to Nashville, about 3.5 hours, Chattanooga, Atlanta, etc. Good deer and turkey hunting, fishing on the tenn Tom as mentioned but you’re also within two hours from Sardis, Enid, or Grenada lakes which are three of the the top five crappie lakes in the country.

SOUTHAVEN (better yet, Hernando or Olive Branch)
in this order:
Hernando
Olive Branch
Southaven
Tupelo

Sold. Sign me up. Doesn’t seem to be busting at the seams like Tx.
Texas is headed a direction that I’m not sure I want to stick around to see. Mississippi seems to have nowhere to go but up. Especially North Mississippi

Those all seem like great places. Great economic opportunities also. My only concern there would be that it’s in the Memphis metro. Does any of the riff raff leak over to the Ms side?

Seems like a very boring place.

I mean I’ve never lived in MS. But from visiting, those places had way more to do, better food, good schools, slightly better weather..and yes proximity to La means more LSU visits
Edit: my knowledge of schools is second hand. I know people who have taught at schools in BSL, Pass Christian, and Pascagoula and said they are good schools

Born and raised in Tupelo. It’s a great town with good people. Downtown has made great improvements lately. Public schools are some of the best you’ll find anywhere, and as others have said it’s relatively close to a lot of places. ~1 hour from Oxford, Starkville, Memphis. 6 hours from NOLA, Alabama gulf coast. 4ish hours from Nashville and Atlanta

I grew up in the Grenada area and still have a lot of family all over that area . I was looking at a house in Hernando but couldn’t pull the trigger.
We’ll probably retire to that area in a year or 2. I’ve spent lots of days catching big crappie and really good duck and deer hunting around Grenada lake . Love the slower pace .

Not sure about some of these. Specifically the Memphis one. Looks more like 2 maybe 1.5 on a great day.

Someone else on this thread mentioned how Tupelo has a surprising amount of high quality restaurants. Just because it’s not Louisiana cuisine doesn’t mean it’s not better or at the very least just as good.
More things to do like what?

Hernando is excellent. Maybe a 10-15 min drive to the TN state line. My sister lives there. Great schools, but they are growing and probably don’t want you there (secretly great), olive branch is also good, but not great but basically backs up to the state line. Southaven is too big and too much traffic and I would imagine schools are declining, but still miles ahead of Memphis and right in the state line.
My wife’s family is from Tupelo. I go there periodically and I don’t care for it personally, but as far as MS goes, it’s pretty good. Close proximity to Starkville and Oxford are its positives, but I find it quite boring. Just being honest.

96 miles from the Tn. state line.

Lack of events festivals etc or lack of bars? Just curious.

Not much to do…I dunno. Nothing wrong with it I guess. Just not my cup of tea. Maybe being around the wife’s family has forever besmirched it.

Yep Saltillo is where you want to be.

My wife has family in the Tupelo area. We visit there a lot, and I always enjoy going there. My favorite restaurant there is a place called Harvey's. It's kind of a blend between Louisiana and delta land cuisine; a bit heavier on the delta cuisine side.
If you want an even smaller town feel that still only about 30 minutes from there, someone else mentioned New Albany. That's a nice little town, and it would be a little bit closer to Memphis which has plenty of direct flights.
ETA: Back in my father-in-law's Hay Day, he leased some hunting land near Tremont (about 30 minutes East of Tupelo) where he's killed some really nice heavy antlered bucks. There's definitely good white tail hunting up there.

Tupelo or Southaven? Which is better
Tupelo. Some of the south Memphis problems are starting to trickle into Southaven.
Olive Branch is the better choice over Southaven imo.
Tupelo is conveniently close to all of Oxford, Memphis and Starkville. 30 min to Oxford, hour to Starkville, 1 1/2 hours to Memphis
