How much of an impact do you think it makes to children? Not talking religious schools, just private education. Homes with good districts so expensive this may be the route going forward

Just follow Libs of Tiktok and that should provide all the insight needed on the public school/ private school decision making.

I think they're less likely to want to come home and be the opposite sex at a private religious school compared to public, but more likely if they went to a non religious private school compared to public.

Move to Texas. Never use the term ‘private school’ again.

I went to private school. When I got to college, I couldn’t believe how dumb others were who went to public school. I also couldn’t believe the drugs the public school kids did. And in public school, even if education is good, your kid is still sitting next to the trailer park or ghetto fabulous little kiddo.

If you are a good parent, they will learn whether they go to public or private. As a BR resident, we send our kids to a private school b/c of the environment. The EBR Magnet system isn't bad, but in no way would I send them to the regular local public schools.

The only difference between private and public school is that students can't talk about their education in public.

Both my high school kids have been in Catholic schools since pre kindergarten, not a chance in hell they would go to a public school, especially today.

Take the northshore for example.
You could *might* be able to save money by living in the Covington high school zone and send your kids to SPS/SSA instead of buying in the MHS zone.

i live in Texas and send my kids to a private school.
my public schools aren't terrible by any means and it's a pretty conservative area, but i worked there for about 6 years and saw where things were headed.

this is the most true thing in the thread. my kids are both active in church and have plenty of friends that are great believers in public school.
but when my kids go to their football/basketball games to support their friends, they always come back shocked at how vulgar that crowd can be.

Putting aside whether you have the means to pay for it, what does your kid need for a school environment? My eldest was smart but hyper and in a large class setting got bored quick and got in trouble. We put her in a small private which had time and resources to give her extra enrichment for her strengths and attention to her deficits. Also helped socially later as school got involved when they reached the clique and bullying stages. She would have drowned in a large public or even Catholic school with 1 teacher for 30 kids.

I prefer the categories of ‘safe’ school versus ‘unsafe’ school.

In Louisiana-Huge difference. Louisiana doesn’t want great public schools though because the catholic mafia private school cash cow would start to suffer. Louisiana public school education stays in last place by design.

I lived in a somewhat rural area. Private school wasn’t an option as the nearest one was 80 miles away. I liked the public school I went to. It was a good mix of economic backgrounds with some well off and some very poor. Seems like home structure is what mattered the most. Mixed results of students. Some are successful, some dropped out of high school.
But our area wasn’t very “cultured” either.

Your choices are:
Private school: Education
Public school: Indoctrination
Choose wisely.

with the assumption that you are not sending your kids to the bottom of the barrel public/private schools (yes, there are some terrible private schools out there), it doesn't really matter that much
parenting and peer group will the deciding factor
