Why was the Left so opposed to the Lab Leak theory?

If you recall at the time, the Left was pretty adamant that there was no way Covid was a lab leak, and instead a wet market.
They were pretty lock step on this. What was the rationale? It was bizarre.

Lab leak was pretty obvious from the beginning with just a little research into some of the lab's published papers. The left simply has an aversion to truth in any subject.

The left quickly arranges lock step behind the mainstream narrative. Why was that the narrative...probably because it would be politically dangerous for the power hold of certain people

Because it was true, and they knew it. And if that truth was clear to the public, it would have significantly changed the response and Trump’s perception in the public

Fauci meanwhile oversaw and encouraged funding, educational instruction, and cooperative work with the Chinese on Gain-of-Function, and had previously said even if such work caused a pandemic, it would be worth it.
7+million deaths later, most of the planet would strongly disagree. So Fauci had to lie about origins.
