My point is more along the lines of “the union agitators are too fricking stupid to realize that they want enough for the business to subsist despite them.”

They usually demand so much that the business says “frick it” because it is cheaper to shut down.

Hence why one or more grocery chains in BR pulled out over the last 40 years.

Starbucks is fine.

Courteous service, healthy food options, free pup cups.

That said, BR sucks as a whole, so I'm sure the Starbucks there does as well.

Good point. Louisiana is an at will employment state.

Engaging in union activity is protected under the NLRA and retaliation for doing so is an exception to the employment at will doctrine.

Starbucks needs to tread carefully. There are a myriad of potential unfair labor practices that can occur after a vote in favor of the union. Starbucks doesn't want to commit any ULPs. Strikers can be replaced permanently if the strike is economic. An unfair labor practice strike means no permanent replacement.

For a single location it’s not hard for Starbucks. Don’t agree to their demands, let them strike, close the store because there is no business.

It doesn’t bother people, per se. Most are just pointing out the absurdity of it.

They should go on strike and show “the man” how difficult it is to replace unskilled labor. I’m sure the market would agree because where else can people find a product as widely abundant a freaking coffee? Hell, even Starbucks coffee!

Look, dickhead, I was responding to the guy who suggested that SB could can these employees due to "at will" employment.

I wasn't trying to educate Starbucks counsel.

Risky. The current NLRB is very pro-union and would likely take the position that the closure of the single location was due to its unionization. A permanent closure due to a strike likely won't pass muster.

They can shut all of their stores down, which of course they won't. Companies have the absolute right to shut down everything, even if they admit they are doing it because they don't want to deal with a union.

Yeah, but there is nothing that says that they have to give in to union demands. Especially when their demands are: asking for better wages, racial and gender equity, and fairer scheduling.

They are already paid better than the BR average for unskilled labor, “racial and gender equity” is nonsense(look at the photo of the employees), and “fairer scheduling” is totally subjective.

I think it’s just the Poydras location and it’s still open. It’s at Poydras and St. Charles. It’s a very heavily trafficked store in a prime location. Starbucks wouldn’t close it.

It’s different than the BR location on Sherwood. It’s on the corner, but there is a boulevard with no cut across for the north bound lane. You can get in from the light at the corner, but it’s not super convenient.

I think they tried to unionize at Maple Street too. Looks like it didn't go anywhere though.
