Are these oyster mushrooms? If so, how should I prepare/cook?
TIA

Definitely looks like them to me. Just pan sauteed in butter is my favorite. Compliment a meal, great eaten with steak or any other dish with other mushrooms.

Yep oysters. The last ones I found, we sautéed with garlic and butter and served with backstrap and potato.
We found our first lions mane last week and will pick it this weekend. Can’t wait to try that one.

Lions mane is fantastic. Found a couple huge ones last year. Made faux crab cakes with some. You’re going to enjoy it.

I had a dead tree on my shooting lane that had a big bunch of oyster mushrooms growing on the truck about chest high, but I didn't have anything to put them in to carry on the long walk back to the truck and on the way home. I brought a grocery bag back with me a week later and the frost had killed them and they were all discolored and soft/slimy looking, so I didn't cut them. There's another bunch growing about 12' high. Hopefully I can get a bunch off of the tree before hunting season is over. I've gotten honey mushrooms off the same stand in previous years. I've also seen a chicken of the woods while turkey hunting. Edible mushrooms are all over fall through spring.

Tear em into 1/2” strips and throw into a pot with a couple links of your favorite smoked sausage and cover with water and boil until water disappears. Enjoy over cooked rice.

They are. Does that affect the taste?

I would imagine. There is a thin “skin” on the top. If you pull that off it will make them look a little better and tender.

Pan sauté. I like a little quality olive oil and garlic.
