After Grizzlies games debacle, and the Rox loss, the Pels have looked very very good (Clips game aside)

We've beaten multiple playoff teams

We're shooting crazy good from 3

Our defense is insane

Herb is making 3s (57% the last 6 games)

Hawkins is getting minutes!

Jonas is taking more 3s

Zion looks like he's taken another step in conditioning. With many more to go.

Ingram is playing the best ball of his career

CJ too.

So many good things sons. I hope it continues for about 10 more games so I can feel truly optimistic

We have such a unique team in that almost every player has an indispensable role.

Willie may have the toughest job in the league trying to find the right lineups at the right time because we have a little bit of everything.

In the latest streak, I've been most impressed with:

Dyson's aggressiveness on offense.
Hawkins just looking like he belongs.
Zion, BI and CJ's defensive effort.
Nance anchoring the D.
Jonas finding spots to dominate.
Herb's shooting.

Almost everyone but Jose is playing their best ball of the year and Jose really only had one or two off games.

It seems like the Pels need to do 2 things. Stay healthy, and figure out the rotations.

Adam McCreary, who is the cohost of Christian Clark's podcast, made a great point about the starting unit and when BI is the PG, he has 3 non shooters working with him and how the best version of BI tended to come with bench units when he had more shooters around him.

I'm not saying Zion and BI shouldn't play together much, if you flip that starting unit to Point Zion, Zion has 2 shooters next to him in BI and CJ. However, that Zion/Hawk/Trey/Dyson/Larry lineup last night looked great, and it was because Zion was the point, which shifts number of open shooters.

I know Willie wants his defense, but he needs at least 2 shooters on the floor at all times, and those shooters cannot be expected to be running the offense. So if BI is on the floor he needs 2 other shooters out there with him unless Zion is running the offense. If they can figure out how to balance the lineups, they'll keep blowing people out.

Speaking of that lineup from last night:

Shamit Dua @FearTheBrown

Definition of Major Plus. Only 60 minutes played together this season

100% this.

Now add in Matt Ryan who I 100% believe should get minutes

Naji and maybe Jose are probably going to be the odd men out if we give Ryan a NBA deal

I think it's Jono Barnes on Twitter that has that perfect circular logic thing he'll tweet out about the Saints and Pels about how we're back, injuries hit, we're not back, we suck, we're starting to come back, we're back etc... it's so spot on.

I'm happy to report, at least for the time being, year 5 during that little streak of blowing double digit leads and the 2 big losses to Memphis is where I reached my breaking point, and I will no longer get too high or too low about the Pels.

I'm enjoying this awesome run we're on, but at no point did I go overboard like I usually do getting too high.

Come back to me after 3 more wins in a row, and we may be having an entirely different discussion

And speaking of getting too high for the highs, if we beat Denver, this place is going to be on cloud 9 but more than likely a bit too optimistic than we should be.

And if we beat Denver by 30, lord have mercy, Pels Talk

So the answer is moving Trey to the starting lineup.

BI facilitates and has CJ and Trey as the shooters.

Rotations may look like this:

Starters - 2 shooters with BI

CJ
BI
Trey
Zion
Val

First subs - Still two shooters with BI

CJ
BI
Herb
Trey
Nance

Zion in/Ingram and CJ out

Dyson/Jose
Hawkins
Trey
Zion
Nance

Trey gets a breather
Dyson/Jose
Hawkins
Herb
Ingram
Nance

Closing lineup - Offense
CJ
Trey
Zion
Nance

Closing lineup - Defense
Dyson
Herb
BI
Zion
Nance

So who gets hurt now that we look like a real NBA team? I offer to the basketball Gods the knees of Kira Lewis.

This is why Zion being load managed/out of shape was so frustrating. He needs to be available and in shape for Willie to figure out rotations and for the units to gel

I wanna preface this by saying I'm in agreement with his and have been hoping for Trey in the starting lineup.

But a bit of good news in that the current starting lineup has been playing really well. it was probably only 10-14 days ago then were something like the 2nd or 3rd worst 5 man group in the entire NBA getting regular minutes. That unit has worked its way back to a positive net rating, at +0.3

Obviously that number, basically a 0 Net Rating isn't good, but from where it was just 2 weeks ago, they've finally started winning their minutes in a big way recently.

I’m gonna hold off from jumping all in again for fear of being the reason it falls apart like the last couple years.

Definitely a great start to the January schedule of death.

Next 3 games very tough. Just hope the pelicans grab 1 and avoid a major 3 game slide in the standings.

I’m also very glad to see Hawkins back to getting minutes. I know minutes are limited on this team, but the rookie needs minutes and opportunities to get shots up to develop.

I'm very satisfied with the results in January. I predicted 9-6 at best this month. We're well ahead of that right now. If we go .500 the rest of the month, we'll be 9-6. But seeing how well they're playing, they are very likely going to exceed that.

JMO: Dyson Daniels is the key to the Pels eventually becoming a serious playoff contender...and the Pels know it. The woods are full of "shooters". If you want another one...just go out and grab one.

The Pels are trying to find 2-way players...like the ones the serious contenders...Celtics/Bucks/Clippers/Nuggets... already have. The woods are NOT full of those kinda guys. Can Dyson develope into a solid offensive player to go with his excellent defense? The Pels THINK he can & will give him every opportunity to prove them right.

A year or two from now...I wouldn't be surprised if at least a couple of our current starters are no longer on the team...and I would be SHOCKED...if Dyson Daniels is NOT in the starting (& finishing) lineup. And yes...Herb would be out there with him.

Silly that people were calling for his job before he was even allowed 40 games with this full roster

I’m old enough to remember a particularly active poster around here saying that blowing it up by as soon as the deadline was inevitable. Same guy was shitting his pants over the fricking preseason.

People need to relax. Let them figure it out.
