Why Would Any Elite Coach Say Yes to Bama….

It’s a no win. You will never live up to the expectation. Win a natty, so what, Saban won 7. You’re in the same conference with the likes of LSU, Georgia, TN, UT, OU, etc. Good luck with that.
The mystique of Bama is going to be a curse for whoever accepts the job. If Dabo thought a caller on a radio show was something tough to deal with wait until you have your first 3 loss season.
Or, stay at a place like Oregon while making all the money you want. Lose a few games. No big deal. Stay relevant and win a natty and be a living legend.

Vs being at any program and being shite canned in 3 years with less advantages to win? I’d take Bama and ride those coat tails.

You've answered your own question by even thinking to ask it.

Money
A roster that's probably the most talented in the country
Typically when a job like this opens up its because they're in a down cycle. An Alabama with a loaded roster, #2 recruiting class coming off a 12-2 season is the opportunity of a career for a coach. Why wouldn't an elite coach take it?

Money
Prestige
The challenge
It’s not a given they’ll ever get an opportunity for such a gig again
Not everyone’s a pussy

quote:Correct - there are still gumps out there who still think Saban hasn’t lived up to expectations. Who cares. His successor is not going to be held to a 6-title standard
You will never live up to the expectation
quote:This doesn’t intimidate non-pussies. See: Brian Kelly. The new playoff format all but guarantees at least 4 SEC teams make it every single year, and when they get there they’ll be far more battle tested than anyone else. This isn’t a detriment, if anything it’s a boon
You’re in the same conference with the likes of LSU, Georgia, TN, UT, OU, etc. Good luck with that.
quote:You can lose plenty of games now as long as you make the playoff. On what planet is a natty a given for a school like Oregon? Nattys are an SEC thing, and under the new format we’re going to get quarterfinals with 5 SEC teams and semis with 3

Not under current rules. Seriously dod anyone actually look at the rules for the playoffs before celebrating them?
It’s not top 12 teams. So out of 6 at large bids, you think the SEC will get 4 of them?

So out of 6 at large bids
And yes, I expect the SEC to take at least 3 of those 7
It will of course be more when SEC dominance in the new format is so thorough that Sankey and the SEC force the end of autobids entirely

Yeah because sec will have 4 or 5 teams next year in the top 12 for playoffs
This year counting texas and ou, sec would have had 3,4,5,8,9,12 lmao. So probably 5 or 5 teams in the top 12 next year lol

No elite coaches should ever coach in a conference like that.

Money. Ego.
Problem for Bama is there isn’t another Saban sitting around waiting for the phone call. They’ll still be a good team, but nobody will replicate what Saban did there.

Because elite coaches aren't losers who are too scared to try because there's a risk of failure.

That’s literally my point. I’m sure it will change as conferences move around, but right now, it’s not the top 12.
It’s never been the top 12.
You even had numerous articles on how this year would have played out.
It’s the top 6 ranked conference champions, and 6 at large bids.

Link? Because everything I’ve seen up till December talking about it still has 6+6

The answer is...
Because they aren't baby back bi**hes.
If you don't think you are a good enough coach to keep the ball rolling at Alabama after Nick Saban leaves, then you aren't much of a competitor.
You're right about the drawbacks, but a lot of guys want that job.
