In the big picture, Obama wasn't that big of a deal. Trump wasn't, either (although you'd never know it based on the Left's response).
i rarely agree with you on most political issues, but i do on this.
Obama himself wasn't the problem. What it opened the doors to from the left was the real issue. And same for Trump mostly.
I didn't vote for him, but didn't think he was THAT bad and still don't during his presidency. he was a bad president, don't get me wrong, but his sycophants felt it was greenlight to go BSC on every perceived grievance.
regarding his second term and talking about racial grievance...
Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street were both pretty mad at the same thing from opposite sides of the political aisle. right around then 2012-2013, race, DEI, oppressors, Obgerfel, etc. rose to the top.
there's a meme i can't find where corporate overlords and government realize that both sides are against them, and say release the oppression narrative.

I think a big part of the problem is the internet. The media has stopped doing it's jobs and is spending their time looking for clicks. So sensationalism is the key. They don't spend any time reporting on mundane, but important issues like the budget, infrastructure, campaign finance reform.
They spend all their time trying reporting on racism, homophobia, mass shootings, etc. This has stirred up the emotions of the electorate and people are being radicalized and argue everything at the extremes, which drives the anger.

The digital age. Internet and media. The independent media has opened a lot of eyes to the level of corruption and deception DC pushes on us, we no longer have to depend only what a handful of MSM outlets report(which is whatever big money desires).
Also, the insane dive off the cliff the left has taken with all this trans/woke/CRT shite and trying to force feed it to the majority.

Political Realignment
Happens once a generation. The factions that the parties work under no longer feel represented and switch sides.

This. And it did start with Bush - calling him a Nazi, hanging Bush dolls in nooses, etc.
Liberals will say it was a response to the Clinton impeachment though. But even if nothing was REALLY bad, it kind of set the stage for more divisive rhetoric...
And Obama threw napalm on that fire.

Obama recreated the divided states of America

Ever since Bush, it's been a cycle of the same memes rotating from each perceived in group to the next. 2008 was when the DEMs re-took the Presidency, so you had all the irrationality of the GWB hate flip to "conservatives" fixated on Obama. That flipped again after 2016, and then again after 2020.
i mostly agree with you here, but the difference is, in my opinion (and i am aware that i have a clear side in this and am not objective...but then again none of us is), that what the Left accuses the Right of being is absolutely batshit insane (literally Hitler, gays in concentration camps, blacks back in chains). for the MOST part, what the Right accuses the Left of is pretty much accurate (albeit a little screechy and a little sky-is-fallingish). i mean how much of the COVID stuff that the Right accused the Left of early on ended up being pretty much right? a LOT of it. but if you said that then, you were accused of literally wanting people to die in the streets. that is not hyperbole.
so anyways, i think i mostly agree with you, but i dont think there is a completely valid centrist "both sides are just as bad" argument here. i DO think the conservatives misjudged the Bill Clinton impeachment stuff back in the 90s, which certainly poured gas on the fire, but i agree with you that the mid nineties conservative takeover of congress was probably the true igniter of the modern day vitriol.

The internet is full of unsourced and unreliable nonsense. At least with
traditional media, we aren’t dealing with anonymity.

i think it was severely misjudged... but... but... if i slept with a bunch of women while in a position of power and then lied to a jury, congress, and the American people about banging an intern in the Oval Office, we all would be serving time.
he did it, as ridiculously inconsequential as the action itself was, and then lied under oath.

with traditional media we are still dealing with unsourced and unreliable nonsense, so who cares if they are anonymous or not? they are immune to any repercussions, so it's functionally the same as the internet.

That’s flat out incorrect. Right now you can watch live broadcast of Hunter Biden making an appearance in a Congressional hearing and MTG freaking out.
Yet some people would rather rely on some nimrod’s description on the internet

The political Left is revolutionary . They became post constitutional slowly- over a century- but fully embraced it post 2008. They seek - quite literally- to replace all of our most cherished American traditions, principles, ideals and Institutions. They are - not hyperbole- Soviet in temperament and fully committed to destroying Constitutionalists/traditionalists/Conservatives specifically and our culture in general. They safeguard nothing and seek only to destroy and replace. It’s truly sad to watch the white women line up to vote for the death of their own culture and not even know it.

100%
which is why the "both sides do it" argument falls entirely flat.

like the 90s were the last year of moderates
Kinda...
Satanic Newt balanced the budget, so a bunch of people that disdained the outta control government spending got what they wanted. The pander bears (& agencies) got the potus they wanted: (D) potus. The wars were ongoing, but we were killing all white people, so that's OK.
Everyone got a little back...only about 20% knew what was really going on (no internet) and could hear the great sucking sound. Some people know the fed was a level beyond budget; but righties tend to take small wins and be happy.
I'd say 80% know and feel the sucking sound now; but only 40% are willing to do anything about it (write letters to congress, hit their SM, ETC)
BUT, big GOV has always been trash...remember the feds investigated (for 2 years) the Kingsmen for cranking out a sloppy recording of Louie Louie.

Obama got elected and delivered on his promise to “fundamentally change” this country.
So an ineligible person was elected to the highest position in the land and set out to alter everything about our way of life

Haven't even read the thread yet but it's simply Obama. The freaks that had him as president for almost 10 years of their young-young adult life are now in academia and other institutions turning this generations young people into radical psychos like them. A charismatic man who wants to destroy something is as dangerous as it gets and now we're watching it

Obama weaponized the internet intelligence agencies and MIC
LBJ set that up, Clinton teed off with it, and Obama over populated the middle and upper ranks of government with radicals.
GOPe were silent partners, but were not actively part of the planning, setup, and execution = doing little to suppress it or even shine a light on it.
We are really fighting an unequal battle on this.

Perhaps I should introduce you to the birther movement and the "Obama is really a secret Muslim supporting radical extremists" rhetoric
I mean I think Biden is part of a family of grifters and bribe takers and all of that, but you have a large population who literally believes he's part of a Satanic child raping ring, along with lots of other Democrat leaders.
The insane framing is not a one-way street.

I mean, y'all should see how legit Leftists describe the Trump presidency and the MAGA movement.
It's the same irrational, fear-inducing rhetoric and attacks to create in/out group dynamics.
