I have an approx 1.5 year old GE profile double wall oven that we ran a self clean on yesterday (like an idiot).
Now its Dead. No display and the doors are still locked shut. Apart from flipping the breaker (which I will be doing when I get home) what else should I be trying?

I've read about a thermal breaker internally going bad. I assume I'll need to call a appliance repair place for that.

Any other suggestions?

might have fried your t-stat if there is one inside the oven chamber

Good luck. Had a appliance repair guy tell us years ago to never, ever run a self clean on your oven. Said that the machine isn't insulated well enough and it will melt things that shouldn't.

We have a 3 year-old GE double oven. The one and only time I used self-clean the glass broke on the door window. The repairmen (it was repaired under warranty) told me to only use the steam clean mode.

there's a decent chance flipping the breaker will reset things and it will work.

i agree with the others..NOTHING good comes from using the self-clean option.

Self clean should never be used. You tripped the thermal fuse most likely.
They are sometimes resetable other times you have to change it.

Don't ever use self clean on electric ovens.

Post your model number and I'll look up the part and location.

There is a slim chance the breaker has half failed . That is common too. Easiest way to see is to remove the bus bar and cycle the breaker. If one side won't stay on then it's a bad breaker.
But with this issue 9/10 is a bad thermal fuse. Also many appliance repairman will misdiagnose it as a relay board. It's a pain to check the thermal and we make more changing the board. So techs will change both to not have to diagnose and return.

Wait. It sealed shut? The lock is the black wire the red wire is the one on the thermal fuse.
That's very odd.

I can't pull it out to swap the fuse either as the mounting screws are inside the door... which Is locked ....

We didn't lose power.
I've checked and reset the breaker. The oven display is still dead and the doors are locked.

Not to hijack, but curious to ask Napoleon, is it okay to use the self clean on a propane fueled oven (2020 version of a Frigidaire to be exact)?

A bit of a long shot but have you verified that you have you verified you have both 120v legs hot at the outlet?

He probably can’t get to the outlet if he can’t open the oven door to take out the mounting screws.

He should hope it’s a breaker issue.

But I have learned from this thread to quit using the self-clean on my double oven.

Correct and I wish I had learned this lesson by watching someone else....

I used the self clean option on my previous oven and it blew the element. Had to flip the breaker and have a repairman come replace the part. Took him only about five minutes and thankfully it was still under warranty but he told me that all ovens do this now and advised to never use the self clean feature.

What is suggested to clean spills in the oven?
