Mickey joseph was wr coach but obviously Brady was involved in their development

Hankton is not going to get a major OC job.
If it's truly a co-OC situation, it's probably a money thing, especially since they just paid Baker 2.5.

But, if he wants to eventually be a OC I think his best move would be to serve as co-OC at LSU. Otherwise, he would have to take an OC job at a much lower level school...which could be a career killer
I’m with you that if it’s me in that position I’m taking the Co OC job but don’t act like taking blame of the offense as coOC because of bad play calling when you aren’t even calling plays is the perfect situation either.
Not a no brainer either way

Meaning that we don’t want to pay for a big name OC?
I doubt that.
There’s plenty of reason to keep continuity in coaching, playcalling recruiting etc to promote from within particularly because Kelly is supposed to be a little more hands on in the offensive side.

I don't think it's about going cheap. It's more likely an effort to retain two high-quality assistants. We were just willing to pay Denbrock $2MM and I'm guessing they were anticipating House's buyout when they made Denbrock that offer.

Hankton is the benefit of two NFL caliber number 1s at the wide receiver position. Is he really that good or were the players just that good? We don't really know yet. I don't think we need to worry too much if the guy doesn't want to stay.
...or maybe Malik & BTJ benefited by developing under Hankton for the last 2 seasons. Is that hard to fathom?

Hankton went from about being terminated by the bulldogs to a hot commodity
Because of LSU and the extreme talent at that position. If he leaves, we will be fine. LSU has had great receivers for far longer than it’s had Hankton.

Hankton is literally the highest paid WR coach that isn't also an OC. They can give him a small bump and make him co-OC, but I can't see how he can demand much more.
If that isn't enough, I look at either Ron Dugans (FSU) or Billy Gonzales (Florida). Both are making $500k compared to Hankton's $900k and have a good history of developing WRs.

How does that work? One coach gets one game and the other coach gets the next? Joint decision on drives? I don’t know so I am asking.

He's got the #1 WR in 2025 coming in. That would be foolish, but everyone has their reasons I suppose.

Any man who can be Co-OC and Co-Dc needs to be be paid at least 3.5 million

Hankton and Sloan were named co-Dc’s for the game

I think this is especially true with all of the upheaval on the defensive side. Keeping the same system, terminology and basic playbook would be helpful in keeping Nuss and the rest of the offense focused on development rather than learning a new scheme or making sweeping changes to the offense.

Yes. They alternate games as OC. That's how it works.
If you're really stupid enough to think that is a possibility, you shouldn't be allowed to watch football (or make your own medical or legal decisions).

Obviously I want what's best for the team, but I still have nightmares about co-coordinators from the Malveto debacle.

Honestly whatever it takes to keep both on staff should happen.

Brady and Ensminger were essentially co-OCs.
Schulman and Muschamp are co-DCs for UGA.
With the right guys it can work.

What is Hankton looking for?
Use your head… He has two of the top receivers in the draft and several good ones in the stable. He is HOT. That is when you seek your market value. He is not a LSU alum that has found his dream job. Going some where else for more $$$ and bigger job is a no brainer.
He has done a great job and hope he stays.

It’s a weird spot for hankton IF he truly has aspirations of being an OC.
If he wants to be a full-on OC, he's going to have to drop down, possibly to 1AA, and prove himself.
Recruiter-first positional coaches are a super risky hire for coordinator positions. Usually it takes a few promotion-demotion cycles for them to get settled in and succeed (if they ever can. Many are like O and not coordinator material).

That is unless he is getting OC offers.
Hopefully, this would be the only position he would leave LSU for.
However, as fast well as the offense looked with him and Sloan working together against Wisconsin, it wouldn’t be a bad strategy for Hankton to at least stay another year and improve his stock.. if he isn’t able to get a P5 OC job this year, staying at LSU as a Co-OC (assuming great success) would probably get him to that point.
