Again, I get its market value. I am simply stating that people complaining how could you pay so much forget who our AD is. All Woody ever does is pay max. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t work out, but negotiation isn’t his strong suit. He literally just seems to go in and throw money out.
It isn’t his money, not ours, so why does he care? He doesn’t. He’s done this everywhere he’s been. In th end, I think he got a good one and likely paid a bit more than he’s worth right now, but if that was what it took to get it done quickly, then so be it.
College sports has become an utter joke in regards to all of these things.

Who said we overpaid? Got kids coming in on 7 figure deals straight out of high school. This is the new norm.

I think it's safe to assume that Kelly did his homework and made a decision for good reasons.
Just like when he did his homework on House, Cooks, Steeples, etc.
Scott Woodward gave Matt House an increase after year 1, then we had to fire him after year two and eat more money.
We all bemoan the broken system that is college football, and part of that broken system is the ridiculous coaching salaries/buyouts and here is LSU leading the way yet again on increasing the coaching market.

I’m friends with a number of high school, college and Pro Coaches. How about you get a job, within a year or two, have to pick up everything, move your family miles away. You seldom get to see your brothers and sisters, mom and dad. Miss most of the activities your kids have, I could go on and on. You settle down in a town, buy a house, then, lose your job, take the kids out of a school, away from their friends. Never knowing where you’ll be next year. It takes a special person, a special wife and special kids, to go through this time and time again. Remember this, it’s only as of late, these coaches are making this kind of money. They are dependent on 17 and 18 year old kids for their jobs.

And if LSU wouldn't you would be complaining about how cheap we are, and saying we can't keep up. People like you will never be happy no matter what.

They probably had to offer more money than he was making. I personally don't care how much LSU pays its coaches. It's not my money

To get sought after coaches you gotta pay. Woodward isn’t a bargain shopper. Trying to win not just compete

What’s expensive now will be little money in 24 months.
This is what people don’t seem to get. The SEC’s $300 million/year deal with ESPN starts next season. Each school will be receiving an additional ~$15 million each year in revenue sharing*, which is going to have a big impact on coaching salaries across the conference.
*The actual increase might be less, because I’m not 100% sure whether the SEC Network deal is factored into the $300 million. Either way it’s a substantial increase in TV revenue, though.
ETA: It’s actually more than $15 million/year per school because the ESPN contract includes a pro rata clause, which increases the contract value with the addition of Texas and OU. So it’s more like an extra $17 million to each school, not counting potential increased revenue sharing from the 12-team playoff.

The entire state of Louisiana has a SNAP recipient rate of 19%. For reference, Texas has a state SNAP recipient rate of 12.2%, Arkansas has a rate of 10.9%, Mississippi has a rate of 13.5% in the state. This means Louisiana has the highest rate in the region for SNAP recipient rate.
They can hold their head with pride. They have the highest paid coaching staff in the nation.

Coaches get payed based on their ROI.
I know, but that doesn’t change the opinion that they’re compensated way too f’n much for their individual role in the job they have. We pay a bunch of assistants and assistants to the assistants to do the job for the head coaches, after we (I’m saying we but I’m talking about the state) pay the head coaches these overbloated salaries first.
I’m talking about NCAA Football in general.

Overpay? Haha. If you want someone to win championships, you pay idiot. Yeah, offer 1 million when Missouri pays him $2 million.

Who gives a shite? You giving to bayou traditions? 20 big boosters fund 95% of our collective
Woody resets the market and $2.5M will look like a steal in a few years. You bet your arse we'd pay $2.5 to have a top 35 defense last season. We'd be getting ready to play Monday night

You got a point? I know you're still pissed because Scott fired your boyfriend.

You are taking this too deeply. I’m not upset at all. Just asking a few questions and making some comments.

They are coaching a freaking sport for a living. I really have little sympathy for them. If they don’t like what comes with the job, then get one without those “issues”.
Again, coaching salaries are o it of hand and are partly to blame for ruining college sports. These salaries are what gave these athletes a leg to stand on in their argument to get paid. So blame coaches and their agents/greed along with the ADs that keep caring only about money for ruining al these things. They are to blame.

some would be crying that LSU is cheap.
Also, the athletic department at LSU is demonstrating that it is willing to pay top dollar for top assistants. That may seem “too expensive” for a lot of fans, but it means something to these assistants. They know if they want to get paid, LSU is willing to pay. So it’s also an investment in our future coaching prospects. Again, it may seem silly to fans, but it’s anything but silly to these coaches that want more cash.

It’s not Scott Woodward. It’s what the market is dictating for a top notch DC.
