The US and UK are expected to release a joint statement later on Sunday warning the Houthis to immediately cease their attacks or face military action from the West. This message is intended as a “final warning,” a British government source told the newspaper.

Britain is preparing to launch airstrikes against Yemen’s Houthi militants in response to a wave of attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea, The Times reported on Sunday. The US and possibly another European country would also take part in the strikes, the newspaper added.

The Houthis, who control a large part of Yemen’s territory, have attacked dozens of container ships in the Red Sea since the Israel-Hamas war broke out in October in a bid to drive freight traffic away from the Jewish state and disrupt global supply chains for as long as Israel’s military campaign continues.

The Red Sea is the entry point for vessels using the Suez Canal, which handles about 12% of global trade. The US announced a maritime task force earlier this month to patrol the Red Sea, although Washington struggled to secure support from its allies

The Singapore-flagged container ship Maersk Hangzhou, operated by Denmark, was struck by a Houthi missile on Saturday, before US Navy helicopters sank three Houthi boats attempting to board the vessel on Sunday, US Central Command said in a statement. The sinking of the Houthi boats marked the first successful American strike on the militant group since the task force deployed to the region. Maersk, one of the world’s largest shipping firms, had only resumed using the Red Sea route several days earlier. In light of the Houthi attacks, it previously sent its vessels on a much longer route around the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa.

Good. You can’t allow global commerce to be disrupted by these assholes.

Yep.
The whole purpose of having a powerful navy is to protect the merchant transit lanes from pirates and bad state actors.

Is RT still banned in the US? VPN’s and tor work, but I was just wondering

We either protect the free flow of goods in our shipping lanes or we don’t. It’s a 19th century issue- simple piracy by a non-state actor. This one is simple. Introduce them to naval power and send them to Allah.

I’m sure it’s the feds behind these attacks

The East is about to explode. Powder keg.

I would expect a pretty hefty group of allied nations participating in this. The entire commercial world cannot tolerate terrorists lobbing missiles indiscriminately at commercial vessels in international waters.

I’m not a war mongerer but this is past due. Bomb the shite out of those goat humpers. Use your intel to take out their leadership structure. You don’t have to invade, just disrupt them so badly that they aren’t organized anymore.

True, but very little of that shipping is ours. We ship to and from Europe via the Atlantic and Asia via the Pacific. China, India, Japan, and Europe are far more dependent upon Suez than we are. Maybe they should step up and protect their own shipping rather than putting the entire cost of their maritime trade security on the backs of the American taxpayers.

We need to bill the ship owners for the cost. Those ships should have been armed a decade ago. We should use the worn out "sanctions card" on whoever funding the Houthis, it's not just Iran.

Final warning? Like I’m going to tell your dad if you don’t listen?

Good. We are launching missiles at these dingys and at missiles they are firing. They cost up to $2 million per pop. Might as well send a $50 million payload to destroy thousands of their missiles and fighters. Will actually save us money

A coalition was started but France, Germany and I think Italy pulled their navy ships out, they did not want to be under US leadership. All other members sent staff officers. Once again the US is the sucker.

This has the weight of a parent who says,” I’m going to count to 10!”

The Yemeni Govt can’t hide behind this anymore. They’re about to get bombarded on several fronts.
