There are a couple of guys my age (50, so Gen Xers) that workout together and when we do we do not wear Air Pods and we talk and socialize during the time there. Every single college kid works out with ear buds in, listening to whatever, staring into their phones between sets, zero interaction. It is extremely sad.

I’ve been to numerous non-college gyms the last few years and the vast majority of people (including some of the much older ones) have headphones in. There’s plenty to criticize about people’s addiction to their phones but there’s nothing wrong with listening to your own music to focus or relax mentally while working out

And the college gym I used to go too had plenty of college students that were friends socializing in between sets because working out with friends is a social thing for them. Some of them a little too much even because they’d take forever to get off a machine or power rack or bench

I have 8 people staying at my house from out of the area. Last night there were a total of about 20 people over for a mini party and the older people could have fun doing anything. Bullshitting around, playing card games, eating, drinking, hanging by a bonfire I built.

There were some young 20s people. The ate a little bit then just grab a drink, sit down on the couch and stare at a phone.

Gym comraraderie is great until a woman inserts herself and either induces jealous rage or ruins the social dynamics by interpreting every interaction as sexual assault.

I've seen it.

don't even remember my 21st. And honestly I still think that's how it should be. I had drank before that of course (my first drink was at 15) but of course it's different when you can do it legally. Even if you're not big into alcohol as long as it doesn't go crazy (any type of alcohol poisoning) I think getting pretty drunk on your 21st should be a right of passage. It's really your last milestone birthday (that you want to celebrate. ) so it should be special, not just another birthday.

Everyone in my HS class drank. We had parties every weekend. A girl in my class dad had an old house on their farm and we fixed it up specifically for parties. We had senior parties with themes. I remember the best one was at a cropduster airport with a live band and 1,000 lbs of crawfish, we all dressed like rednecks. Girls had daisy dukes and cut off wifebeaters, I had an old 77 K5 blazer for a hunting truck and my buddy had an old CJ5 and we took the tops off and had huge confederate flags flying on them.

We went out to bars at 16 years old. If there wasn’t anything to do on a weekend night we would just pick up some girls and ride backroads and drink beer. 50 dollars got you through the weekend. 25 in gas. 20 for a handle of Kentucky tavern or 30 pack of keystone, 5 bucks for a pack of cigarettes.

Our high school parties would have 100s of people, people from rival football schools would show up and sometimes huge brawls would break out. One was so bad at a Turkey Bridge party when a guy from Greenwood made a joke about a classmate who died that some were hospitalized.

Skinny dipping at the rope swing out at Macon Lake. Mud riding in the fields. Everyone had a truck, it was always a competition who could have the loudest exhaust, best mud tires, best sound system. Blacked out tinted windows.

In summer I had a ski boat my grandparents gave me and we loaded it up every Saturday and spent all day on the lake.

We had a blast back then. It saddens me kids today don’t enjoy those years like we did. I miss it to this day. It’s amazing thinking back we are actually still alive because we were fricking stupid. I don’t know how we got away with the stuff we did. I remember getting suspended senior year cause we had an old cotton trailer outside the left field fence of the baseball field and welded old bleachers on top of it, so we would use it as left field lounge to heckle the outfielders. We got in trouble when the headmaster came back there one day and we had a grill cooking burgers and coolers full of beer during the baseball game. And an old boot tied to a rope that we would throw at the left fielder and hit him then pull it back in. Our goal every game was to make the opponents outfielder cry. We would scour his social media prior to the game to find material to make fun of him for

There also just seem to be less fun places in general to hang out. Make your own. When we were young and broke, we partied at peoples houses, parking lots, fields, lakes...

That’s what we did. We had

Turkey Bridge
Middle Bridge
The Orchard
Macon Lake
Crossroads
Tinker House
Rebel Farms
Zip Line pond outside of Sunflower (Sunflower Sunflower the city of sin. 3 whores, 2 stores, and an old cotton gin )

Its because they don't know how to socialize on anything other than a phone screen

I feel like every generation just likes to make shite up about the younger folks. I’m 50 and I remember having to listen to the same stupid shite 40 years ago about how young kids suck, don’t farm anymore, or go outside, or whatever other dumb shite adults said back then.

Breaking news, HS kids still party a lot, go to the movies, and do all the same stupid stuff we all did. Most of yall just can’t get off your own screens and open you eyes to see it. I’ve got 3 kids from 12, 16, and 25. I’m already hearing my 25 year old talk about “kids these days” it’s dumb. My 12 year old will probably be saying the same stupid shite y’all are saying in here in 15 years

I hope my kids one day have half the fun I did. I have some of the best memories I could ever ask for

Good point as well. Being 40 and being at college from 2002 to 2007 I feel like I personally hit a sweet spot. I largely grew up with technology but am old enough to not be digitally native. I remember not having a computer at home and I remember not getting my first cell phone until my senior year in high school. I was also lucky enough to go to college before smart phones and social media took over. It was all just in its infancy, you still had to genuinely talk to each other. The amount of social skills that have been lost in Gen Z I think is really concerning.

Millenials know when to separate social media from reality, because they know what it’s like to interact without social media since they grew up in a time when social media never existed. That’s the difference.

No, I think Gen Z folks are just boring people. Has nothing to do with cost. Didn’t someone just post an article on here recently about how Gen Z isn’t even interested in dating or sex?

He told me he wears them all the time and said it felt weird being ng outside without them on. This is an addiction, folks.

My gf’s 13 year old does this. It’s annoying af because he throws a fit like a 5 year old if we force him to go somewhere without them

The article essentially blames it on costs.
Little, if anything, has to do with this.

ISO, it has the majority to do with the little electronic cube they carry everywhere and that their interactions are almost all electronic.

They don’t interact in person anymore.

Maybe Gen Z'ers are put off by alcoholics and drunks?

They should be hyper aware of them with all the adderall, Vyvanse, and other amphetamines they’re eating.
