This was the original intent of bowls - post-season exhibition matchups that don’t matter all that much. Returning players get some extra practice, seniors get an extra game, play a school outside your conference you don’t normally play. Non NY6 bowls are just reverting back to the original model.

Some of these schools actually lose money because of travel costs and forced ticket purchases. The network and conferences won’t left them back out. It’s just TV content

The “bowl games will soon be obsolete” phrase has been repeated ad nauseam my entire life.

They’ve always been worthless and important at the same time.

It's not a trophy, it's more football.

Good. Nobody cares, even about the games their own teams are in.

It’s still a bummer. They were fun once upon a time

And they do this to themselves…these bowls are becoming obsolete due to their own stupidity

Bowl season used to be so much fun but greed kills all, just as it’s slowly killing CFB in general

Who would ever want more college football? Every school should stop playing except the ones who could make the playoff.

Especially FSU since they need every bit they can get if they're being serious about getting out of the ACC GOR

Still wish they’d just show up and kneel every play

Now that we have a 12 team playoff, Bowls should move to week 1. Invite teams based on previous season or projections. Would be great.

I don't understand this reflexive need to shite on bowl season. I love it. College football on every night. Why people have to try to outdo one another on the Internet disparaging bowl season I don't know.

Yes.

I don't hate more football...I hate more shitty football, which is what it has become due to the top comment above.

In theory teams save money when players opt out.

I saw a Western Kentucky player crying because they just won the Famous Toastery Bowl. These games matter to the kids on the field. Especially the players without people in their ear.

ESPN won’t let that happen. It’s easy programming for them.

And after Christmas is when the real bowl season kicks off. It’s much more entertaining because the teams are better.

What? People have been fussing about too many bowl games for decades now.

They've been terrible for years. When it was organic, it mattered and was great.

We're going to get another fricking rematch and what's the point of the season?

In the late 90s there were 18-20 bowls, it was considered an accomplishment to make one.

Yet people complained there were too many. I was around and I recall.

I was as well and do not remember “too many bowls” being a common complaint until the number exploded in the 2000s. There were 15 bowls in 1980 20 in 2000 and 35 by 2010

In any event, past complaints if they existed do not invalidate new ones.
