The rule is your HS coach can't coach you in the summer. His summer basketball coach is now his HS basketball coach.

They knew the rules.

Excuse a kid for leaving poverty stricken East Fel to better his family situation in Zachary.

This isn’t Catholic recruiting some kid in BR.

This was a complete move and life change for real reasons.

This doesn't have to do with him switching schools. If that were the case, he wouldn't have been able to play football.

Seems like a deliberate choice to focus on football. If you saw him play at all this season, it worked.

Just curious, why is the rule written this way against the student. Why is it not written so that the teacher can’t coach the HS if he coached the student in summer?

The coach should be ineligible, not the student. I’m probably missing something though.

Dude, lemme educate you on LHSAA... They always frick the student. Always.

Mostly because the coaches (aka, LHSAA) are paranoid, controlling asshats.

Probably because they're not wanting to open themselves up to labor related lawsuits.

Is this a new rule? My high school baseball coach would require us to play for him in the summer.

because of set date windows for practice. Rule has been around a loooong time, this is not the first case and won't be the last.

Does this just apply to hoops? I know baseball coaches coach their players in Summer baseball.

Ehhh. You mean you can’t transfer schools to your AAU coach? Because there are teams that have coaches coach them during the summer in 7v7 as well as baseball. The joke is how are you ineligible for a sport later in the year while being eligible for the first sport of the school year? If he can play football, he 100% should be eligible for basketball. The ruling is idiotic and opens the door for schools to recruit kids and say it was for a different sport.

Those are no longer a thing. There are no more restrictions on practices dates.

Not quite. A coach can coach his kids in the offseason. But if a kid who plays on his out-of-season team transfers to his school, the kid loses a year.

Not exactly. It has to do with how many players are on the team he coaches and his head coach doesn’t coach a team.
Ithe end the kid was punished because of adults but There’s more to this story than on the surface
