Tony Chachere's Jambalaya in a box

Made some tonight - not bad for a quick mix. Used half chicken stock half water for liquid, and added some smoked sausage from Don's in Scott. Good, easy combo.

Try Cajun Fry. Comes in clear bag made in Pierre Part. Buy the mild, I find the hot one for some reason the rice does not cook.

Not dissing you, but I find it absurd that anyone in Louisiana would eat boxed jambalaya. All you gotta do is brown some meat and throw in some frozen vegetable seasoning blend, add some salt, pepper, tony's. Let it simmer, then add your chicken stock, water, and rice.

I like this stuff as well.
Easy peazy.

Too lazy to chop your own veggies?
Not all people on this board have the time to cook a proper meal. Some of us are older than others. I make my own stock, I chop my own onions, and I use my own seasoning blend.
There was a time, however, I would spend my free time looking to get laid. 1lb of Manda's and a box of jambalaya mix at 3am were a part of my drunken formative years.
Not my thing anymore, but Cajun Fry has the best mix I have ever had. Try it.

if you must use a mix try Oak Grove Smokehouse. damn solid.

OK OK I will admit, I used this once and it was somewhat decent.
In my defense, I was in the middle of the woods in North Louisiana, 45 miles from a store, sleeping in a tent, during a pouring rain storm.
Forgive me father for I have sinned

Ready in 25 minutes after a long Monday - that's why!
I've tried the Oak Grove - used to love it when I was a kid (30 years ago!), but not crazy about it when I last tried it.

Was suggesting a quick and superior alternative.

I love using the Tony's box for a quick weekday meal - its not what I would use if I was making a big pot of some good crawfish and sausage jambalaya, then I would make it from scratch.
But on a weekday, its a good quick meal, I still add a fresh onion and some minced garlic, cut up some chicken breast, cut up some Bryan sausage, brown all that throw in the mix - dinner is served...

Then why do all the grocery stores in Louisiana carry numerous brands?
Not everyone can cook, much less cook a jambalaya.

Yep, that is the best I've tasted. My elderly mother no longer cooks jambalaya from scratch, so she keeps that kind of stuff in the pantry.
It came in handy after the hurricane.

Bingo. After taxieing to soccer, softball, dance, tennis, drama etc... and starting two to three hours of homework a Tuesday or Wednesday night meal this works well.

I've always liked the Bayou Magic mix but it seems to have disappeared from shelves both in Atlanta and Baton Rouge. According to their web site:

Hurricane Katrina has affected most businesses in Louisiana to some degree, including ours. Due to a change in production and marketing Bayou Magic™ products have not been shipped to grocery stores lately. We hope to have Bayou Magic™ available at the retail level in a store near you real soon.

some of the nastiest stuff i ever tried to eat.

Tried Tony's only once-gave it the thumbs down.
Oak Grove is pretty damn good. I take it to the deer or duck camp to whip out a hot meal in short order. I am fully capable of making a killer from scratch jambalaya, but time does not always permit me to do it right. To a bunch of half drunk Michigan deer hunters, that Oak Grove version I whipped up was the best thing they had ever put in their mouths. Well, almost...

I'd be having supper at 9pm. I'll take Oak Grove on a weeknight, save the homemade for the weekends.
It ain't like the 60's when mom would start cooking supper at 2pm every day.

Eh, that might be overstating looking for a shortcut. It's just a convenience food.
I think it's pretty good - heck, even Rice-A-Roni isn't bad some nights. I like to snort the seasoning packet. It makes me feel like I'm at a rave. A broccoli-and-cheese-flavored rave.
