People way into HS recruiting are super weird

I get reminded every year on NSD of how creepy it is to be super into the goings on of HS kids. It is jock sniffing at best and bordering on Mr Clean level cringe at worst to be fanatical about mostly underage boys. Half the kids will never even make a tiny impact at college.
I have a few people I consider friends into recruiting and it’s just so creepy. I am into some pointless shite but no one would think I could be a pedorasrt for it.

People who also post high school sport results on here are weird

You think it’s weird that I have a wishlist of ten 18 year old boys that I hope go to a university I never attended? You’re weird, idiot.

One exception for the CSAL 8th grade basketball ranking. Those are the best

Eh, it is on-par with people who obsess over celebrities.

People have all sorts of hobbies. I didn’t remember today was signing day until I saw this thread, but I don’t think the guys that follow it are weird or pedophiles. Kind of strange that you let it bother you.

As Ive gotten older I think its also strange to be so into CFB that you start shitting on players. Like, I love college football, but damn youll never see me shitting on some college kids man lol

I’m sorry they’ve been in every sports section I’ve ever seen…

The mock draft they do of high school kids on the recruiting board is what’s weird.

Imagine, as a 45 yr old, following dozens of 16 yr olds on social media and begging them on social media to commit to your favorite school. And then cursing at them and letting it ruin your day bc they didn't pick your favorite school. Happens here every day.

Yet people wonder why they have a big head while still in HS.

Recruiting at a high level used to be pretty interesting IMO. I don’t see a problem with going to 247 and looking at individual and team rankings every once in a while.
Just seems irrelevant nowadays with transfer rules the way they are, and yeah it’s weird if you obsess over it.

They are so strong. Did you see their 7 on 7 highlights? They are so fast. Look at their muscles.

Perfect description.
You can add that the kids are frequently not even taking the school part seriously. Often the kids wouldn't even go to college but for the athletic program, so their decision has little or nothing to do with the quality of the educational institution that fans purport to love. It is F'n weird and pathetic to see grown men fawn over HS kids because the run fast or can throw a ball.

I don't follow recruiting closely, but I don't think it's THAT weird when you consider the kind of money that's being thrown around at major programs these days. I can see why it's interesting, similarly to the NFL Draft.
While many players don't work out, I don't believe there has been a national championship won by a team without at least one top 10 recruiting class on it. So getting as many top prospects as possible generally (not always) correlates to more success.
What crosses the line are the unhinged mouthbreathers who attack kids and their families for not signing with their favorite school.
