I don't understand this line of thinking.
There's a market for players, just like in the NFL. And just like in the NFL, teams pay too much for certain players.
But good personnel departments put a price on a player and don't exceed it.
Who is right here? Time will tell.

Richardson is a good player, but he's not elite.
This is a bad take. He was one of the best CBs in the SEC this season, easily. He is definitely a high end elite level player.
The only SEC corners PFF graded out higher than him this season were McGlothern and the Bama guys. He was LIGHT YEARs better than anyone we had, and we just lost our best corner to the portal (and not saying Ryan was good, but to end last season he was best available). We NEED guys like Richardson in the worst way, it's someone with a LA background we cannot whiff on. Corner is a gigantic position of need.

Ole miss has a ton of rich donors and more importantly they are much better organized to raise funds within the program and direct then to the right places. We need to step the frick up.
Don't agree. Ole Miss is not a school that can recruit elite talent out of HS, unless the kid is a MS kid. That is just the reality. 5***** or high 4**** kids out of HS are not typically going to go to rural MS out of HS if they are from large cities from other parts of the US, just not. So Ole Miss does not have tons of NIL resources tied up to their recruits out of HS (except maybe in-state MS kids).
So what Ole Miss can do is use the portal and target NIL funds to guys to win in the short term. Ole Miss has Dart back next year, in my view in the new 16 team SEC, he is among the top 4 SEC QB's next year with Ewers at Texas, Milroe at Bama and Beck at UGA. Judkins is the top RB next year, the WR group with Harris who portaled in to Ole Miss from LA-Tech last year and Wells from SCAR coming int this year gives Dart 2 legit SEC WR's
On Defense, they are taking in 2 edge guys with SEC experience from UF and TENN, 2 Safeties, 1 from TENN and 1 from OU and the LB from Arkansas (Paul). That is 5 pencil in starters next year.
Lane is going all in next year to win big it looks like, they have a manageable schedule (no Bama, UGA at home and OU at Home).
Right now they look like a top 12 CFP team next year. Having a 5th year QB in Dart with all the starts he has, and weapons an Lane is playcaller with improved Defense, they are going to hard to handle.
42 of LSU's 80 scholarship players per 247 2023 talent composite are 4**** or better. While LSU has no 5***** in this 2024 class, 18 are 4****. So LSU's roster next year will have in the area of 50-55 4**** or better and actually be at 85 for the first time in BK's tenure (72 in 2022 and again 80 this year).

The defense was NOT good as the stats prove but it is getting to be old, tired, and UTTER FICTION to call the LSU defense the WORST defense in LSU history. I will point you to the 2nd tenure of Bo Pelini who lasted one year at LSU because his defenses gave up bust after bust. As proof, this season LSU gave up 409 yards per game. In 2020 during the Pelini debacle, LSU gave up 492 yards per game. NOT remotely close to the worst defense in LSU history. I didn't check Tepper's defense but the spread wasn't around then so probably not up to 409 yards/game standard.

Because what is the threshold? If I donate 5 bucks, may I now complain? I've also been a season ticket holder for 20+ years. I have LITERALLY paid over $100,000 to TAF at this point. If that can't win a recruiting battle, then maybe the program is just fricked

UTTER FICTION
It is just as ridiculous to not factor in how dominant the LSU offense was in keeping possession of the ball and how many more times the other units had to be on the field. There are far more factors in play than one number being more than the other number. To say this was

Great post! Agree with almost all of it. BTW, the word on Chestnut also was he "gambled a lot". Usually, that is the case where the guy gets beat too much for whatever reason (may be size as you stated) and has to "guess". NOT good! As far as the DT positions, I was not surprised after I saw Maason Smith was not up to his TR FR form and Mingo had an upper body injury that late in the season Kelly finally owned up too. He said he had been trying to play through it...which means he shouldn't have been out there. As I've said, Jordan Jefferson was the best DL LSU had and PFF agreed grading him out the highest for the season.

Obviously, you don't remember the bust after bust in every game that Pelini coached. I saw almost no busts this year and I watched every game. What I saw were a bunch of missed tackles and guys too green to be starters. For example, you can blame House for Speights missing that tackle on the A&M TE at the sideline that GAVE A&M a 50 yard TD on a 5 yard pass but that is NOT Matt House's fault. What is a "joke" is the hyperbole that the 2023 LSU defense was the worst in team history. MIGHT be the 2nd worse..maybe. But you can't SPIN 409 yards being more than 492. Retake Math 101.
Also, LSU's DOMINANT offense did NOT keep the defense off the field. On the contrary, LSU scored so quickly that the other team had MORE possessions than they normally would have because LSU scored so quickly many times on long pass plays!

HOW DID WE MISUSE PERKINS? (screaming because I didn't press the Caps lock key)

One caveat is that the 2020 season was an all SEC schedule. There was no Army, Grambling or GA St to bring the averages down. Either way, both defenses were probably 1A and 1B of the worst in LSU history.

2020 is an entirely different circumstance than this year. It was a Covid year with limited practice time, and Orgeron insisting on shifting to a 4 man front with 3-man front talent on the team. It is honestly what ruined that year.
Add in that they got those stats against 10 SEC games and had tons of players opting out and it looks worse. LSU gave up 439.7 ypg this year vs P5 teams, and if you remove just the MSU game since they were an utter disaster, they gave up 466 ypg.
Further, as bad as that season was, they never gave up 700+ yards to anyone.
In the end, there was legit reasons for LSU to look that bad in 2020 given the COVID issues. 2023? There was nothing anywhere near that.

Good point on the 2020 COVID year being without any cupcake teams! Having said that, surely you remember all the defensive busts in coverage. That has nothing to do with guys missing their assignments..time after time after time. Also, my theory was that Pelini was a fine defensive coordinator in old school football. Pelini had NO CLUE how to be a DC in the spread offense world. Pure and simple! I will stick to my statement which is still 100% valid. The 2020 defense under Bo Pelini was the WORST in LSU football history. I would have to check the Lou Tepper year(s) to compare against 2023. This past season MAY have been the 2nd worst. But once again to compare spread offenses in the last 10 or so years against offenses 25 years ago is folly to begin with.
