Would you refuse to speak to your adult kids if they changed their religious beliefs?

There's a couple friends of mine going through this.
One became a Mormon, grew up Catholic. His wife grew up Mormon.
The other is now atheist, grew up Baptist.
Both sets of families have cut them off. It's been hard to watch.
I can't fathom cutting off my own kids due to something like that.

We don’t have any religious beliefs, so we don’t deal with any superficial drama like that

I couldn't do that.
You're supposed to love your kids unconditionally. This ain't that.

From your discussion, it seems that the question should be "Would you refuse to speak to your adult kids if they did not follow your religious beliefs?"
Changing their own beliefs could be changing it back to the parents' beliefs.

Not going to disown my future kids for becoming individuals

We are Christian and I yes I would continue the relationship with my kid as I always have, nothing would change.

Yikes. Really? These two are in shambles over it. It's been hard to watch.

As soon as my kids stop believing in Santa Clause we'll no longer be on speaking terms.

A girl I went to college with came from a family that (1) did not have a lot of money and (2) were all members of a "holy roller" type church that was very controlling.
She defected during college and the family disowned her. The church was local and it was very aggressive in trying to stop her from leaving.
She married a guy that was from a very wealthy family. Many years later, her family was destitute needing money. They asked her for help (the first communications in years). She ignored them, and she ignored them in the right way (by not responding in any way, the best way to avoid drama).
Karma was well served.

Are they trying to constantly to sell Mormonism or Atheism to me in attempts to convert me?
Posted on 12/14/23 at 12:05 pm to Billy Blanks
No. Until someone can provide actual proof, all of them are made up folklore

As long as they weren’t petulant, throw-it-in-your-face types, no.
Or converted to devil worship.

Often repeated but false. World War II was started by those who lacked any traditional religion.

Live your life. Don't commit a felony. We're good.

Not me. I am also not super religious either.
Most of the people I know in this situation are ex-Catholics with their parents being the ones cutting off communication when they became Protestant.

I think it’s actually a good opportunity for the parents to be an example and practice the age-old “WWJD?”
