If Use Your Illusion 1&2 was distilled to a traditional album

Would it have saved Guns n Roses?
And what songs would you have?
In no order, my submission:
Don't Cry 4:44
November Rain 8:57
Perfect Crime 2:23
Live and Let Die (wings cover) 3:04
You Could Be Mine 5:43
Get in the Ring 5:42
Knockin on Heaven's Door (dylan cover) 5:36
That's 36 minutes right there.
Civil War at 7:42 rounds it out.

How did the double album contribute to GNRs demise?
And list is shite w/out Estranged.

In OP, I said "what would your list be?" so make one.

They dumped every single song they had ever worked on into both albums, leaving them with nothing to work on for a next album.

I changed it to Guns n Roses. Is that acceptable?
Tough crowd here tonight.

I thought the demise was from burnout, creative differences and people quitting?

and Axl being an egotistical a-hole. Lack of creativity had nothing to do with it.

Yeah Axl wanting to go Electronic after being hung up on NIN definitely played a part. They were falling apart before UYI release, with My World being added by Axl w/out most of the band knowing.

Pretty sure you lost him by insinuating the double album caused the breakup, not the fact that you typed GNR.

That was part of it, but the rest of the band minus Sorum did not help. Slash and Duff were consistently fricked up on a regular basis....even Duff says that. It created a lot of friction because Axl was a showman and usually the delays were generally because they were waiting for Slash and Duff and before UYI Izzy to get sober enough to perform.

I'm with you Op. I've always thought this. Same for Smashing Pumpkins and Mellon Collie. Downvote away frickers.

I get what you are saying. While producing a double album didn't necessarily lead to the break up, combining the two albums would have produced an absolutely brilliant work that would have been their pinnacle and could have helped keep them going off that momentum. Instead, they produced a great but flawed and overweight release. To answer your question:
1. Dust and Bones
2. Don't Cry
3. Double Talkin' Jive
4. The Garden
5. Don't Damn Me
6. Civil War
7. 14 Years
8. Yesterdays
9. Locomotive
10. So Fine
11. Estranged
12. Don't Cry
The order needs to be rearranged though (chrono order from the two albums above). The stuff at the end of UYI I needs to be at the end.

I dunno, what's the point of being in a massive rock band if you can't make a bloated, self-indulgent record?
I would love to see a real warts and all documentary about Guns N Roses...how they went from being dirtbags to a huge band, all the drama that went on with making the Use Your Illusion records, the massive tour behind those albums, the drugs, how it all fell apart, the years working on Chinese Democracy, how they've kind of come back together.
They made a couple of great records, but they could have been the American Rolling Stones or had as deep of a catalog as Aerosmith.

Kind of like Physical Graffiti. Too many songs for one album and not enough for a double album so let's use some filler and make some money. And for those who think PG is LZ's best....you are wrong.
