NCAA Loses in Court: TRO against One Time Transfer Rule

BREAKING: In Ohio vs NCAA, Judge John Preston Bailey issues a temporary restraining order (for the next 14 days) that grants immediate eligibility to any college athletes currently seeking it via a multi-transfer waiver.
Next hearing is scheduled for Dec. 27, 2023.
This essentially means for the next 14 days, NCAA can't require any multi-time transfers to sit out while seeking a waiver for immediate eligibility.
Judge will likely decide whether to grant a preliminary injunction—which would likely extend thru length of a trial—on Dec 27.

My goodness. Courts don't belong in sports for non criminal matters.

I would imagine this also establishes a TRO on any outstanding waiver applications denying the same.

Unreal. The only way I can see this being controlled somewhat is multi-year contracts being signed by student athletes

Not even pro sports have this shite. Players are under contract. It's time to do that in college too.

Unlimited immediate transfers with no salary cap or restrictions on pay for play. Yay college sports!
ETA: hell maybe we'll see a day where CFB is set up like a badly run fantasy league where you can transfer players during playoff season. Team didn't make the playoffs? Oh well, semester's over, all the elite players can transfer to a playoff team and make a superteam!

The ncaa has done this to themselves at this point. Their past, present and future weakness is going to end the organization

People keep laughing at me for saying the teams will break away from the schools. If these items go through, a lot of fans will be done. Why even get to know or care about a player that can be gone every single year after a bidding war?

The NCAA is dumb. They need to put this on the schools, not the player.
Players have unlimited transfers. Schools can only accept players that have transferred once.
Either that, or make the Academic Progress metric have a transfer component that is egregious.

I don't understand the end game with all of the realignment and rule changes. Is college football trying to NASCAR itself? The people in control of college football (TV execs) seem to think that their core fanbase will stick around no matter how much they change the game, just like the idiots who ran NASCAR did. Part of me thinks the realignment/NIL/portal stuff is thought up by TV execs as a way to create content during the offseason.
All of this shite is quickly making me, someone who used to watch college football from noon to midnight nearly every Saturday, lose interest in the sport very quickly, and I know I'm not alone. I hate what college football is becoming and there will be a day in the very near future where college football fans stop going out of their way to watch games.

Everyone bitches about the NCAA all the time and then bitches when the NCAA gets neutered. The Supreme Court setting the precedent of no rules (hello, Justice Kavanaugh) has essentially ruined the greatest American sport.

I'll go out on a limb and guess Bailey's political affiliation.
