Have a 70" Samsung TV that has the half dark screen. Trouble shot over the phone with Samsung. They will cover the parts but I have to pay the repair. I can get the same TV for around $700 at Best Buy. What's you guys' opinion. not sure what repair rates are.

shite is not worth repairing these days. Buy a new one

How much would the repair be?
Most likely I would just buy another one since TVs are so cheap nowadays.

With the cost for repair, even if it works worth a damn after the repair. Take that one to the trash can. Go to BestBuy and grab a brand new one.

Do TV repairmen even exist anymore?

they didn't say how much the repair would be. Just a 100$ call out fee.

That alone is insane. And who knows if it'll work or for how long. The days of getting anything much (case by case basis, but for the most part) are over.

Call Samsung back and ask for a credit towards purchase of a new Samsung.
They would rather do that anyway. You get a newer model and they don't have to fool with mailing parts.

With the price of tv's these days if I'm going to take the trouble to drive one anywhere it's going to be driving a new one home.

Do you self a favor, go bigger, get a 75" this time.
A few extra inches never hurt anybody.

And there's no telling how long it'll take the parts to be delivered, OR if the repair will fix the problem or for how long. And who the hell wants to take time to schedule and meet a repairman to come to the house during the holidays, etc. The whole damn thing is an inconvenience when new TVs are cheap.

$100 an hour on average
you will get it fixed with parts for free, but it will cost you $200-$300 for labor
thats why everyone says just go ahead and buy a new one unless you have a $1000 TV

the same TV is 629 right now. So 140 call out plus 2 hours would be around 340-400 best case.

Here's another idea.
Have them send you new parts. Sell them on Ebay and put the money towards your new set.
