Almost all of the issues posted on here start with one thing, a talented experienced PG which they don't currently have. If he can get Givens to sign next season then he will have that piece of the puzzle and hopefully will have some competent players around him. If Cook can get eligible then I think you would see a different team. Efton Reid getting cleared is a good sign for Cook. We will see.

True, Collins was a 5* coming out of high school. And he had shown a flash or two, but didn’t he injure himself slapping the backboard? I have heard nothing about it but did notice he hasn’t played since then.
As far as Ward goes, I’m a fan of his potential, but he’s a net negative player at this point due to poor defense. Some high school evaluations get certain things right. And then there are partial evals… in any event, most had Ward as a 4* out of high school, which in my opinion was grading his offense only while neglecting or minimizing what he brings to the table (or doesn’t bring) defensively

Nobody’s going to be a net positive with McMahon at the helm. We’re not going to see talent flourish in this slow paced, predictable offense and passive defense. What he’s trying to do is put experienced guys out there more hoping they can execute at a high level with decision making and shooting. We see how that’s working out and it’s not gonna change because he doesn’t know any other way.

When McMahon leaves, the unofficial NCAA sanctions have expired.

He actually would get 80% according to the contract.
It's 80% if he's fired without cause (i.e. poor performance). If he's fired with cause (i.e. cheating, criminal behavior, etc.) LSU owes him basically nothing.
I think that, although he doesn't deserve it, due to the buyout and the length of contract McMahon will get bare minimum an extra one if not two more years. Even though I think he should be fired ASAP.

I will be pretty surprised if he is gone after this year. I don’t think it is unreasonable to give the guy 3 years but also I don’t think Woodward gives a shite about basketball enough to actually fire and pay out his contract

The basketball team is going in the wrong direction. We thought we were at rock bottom. Who would have ever imagined one of our sports teams in last place in conference. Do other sec schools fire their coaches forfinishing in last place or continue to reward the coaches by the millions. Ideally you would hope that the basketball team would generate the funds for his pay but how do you draw people to see this even at half price? Does this affect nil money from other sports?

At this point in time, nearly 1.5 years in I agree with this Alt. Perhaps you can throw in evaluation as well.
These days kids care more about playing time than winning. Most would rather play a lot on a bad team than sit the bench and not play on a very good team. So there are options out there and part of the process is evaluation.
Take Tari Eason for example, he is the very epitome of the guys we are getting a lot of in the transfer portal. He was a bench player who saw limited PT on a middling Cincinnati team. And he comes here an becomes a middle first round NBA pick. Was it evaluation? Development? both? Whatever it was we've seen neither from guys who we have now who fit the same profile transferring in.

That's a football reasoning right there.
It's far too easy to be good almost immediately in basketball these days.
And it's not like he's hovering around at being a good team. They were the worst ever at LSU last year, and are on pace to continue that this year.
Winning 4-5 games in conference last year, and then maybe 7-8 this year, then absolutely he gets another year, hell that's enough for 2 more years probably.
But if we have under 5 SEC wins in his first two years, i'm sorry but you got to hit the road jack. That's simply unacceptable.

defense is on the coach in college more so than the players.
Defense is anticipation and desire … anticipation can be coached to a degree, though some players will never get it. Desire is all on the player.

There's a part of me that wishes he'd lose tonight vs Alabama State. That would get Woodward's olfactory, and finally he would make a change.
LSU basketball with Coach Mc is simply unsustainable

I disagree. A coach is a leader, and inspires his players to play for him and play HARD for 40 minutes. Being at LSU, wearing that jersey, playing for your head coach, it should be enough. But we consistently see a problem where our players just check out.
Do you think Coach Cal has these problems? Coach K? Bill Self? frick no. Because they are leaders.
Obviously we should hope that these players should want to play hard on their own, and McMahon does too (see Nicholls post game press conference), but the reality is these are 19-21 year old kids with NIL money. The internal desire to play has decreased a lot. The coach NEEDS to be a motivator.

Desire is not all on the player. a good coach gets the best out of guys, and gets them to give their best on the court.
When most of the players lack that desire, it's not a player personnell thing, it's a culture of the program thing, which 100% falls on the coach.
I get what you're saying, but good college coaches can get just about anyone to give a shite on defense. I'd agree with you completely if we were talking about nba players.
