Yeah cause replacing him is gonna start a winning streak from players that can’t shoot or defend?

It's really a different situation too on what he inherited. It's not like the guys on the roster were terrible when he go here. Apples to Oranges on what MM inherited compared to BK

Vandy. Who many people probably didn't even know had a men's basketball team.

Vandy has traditionally been decent in basketball, right?

ETA: looks like the were decent in the 00’s up to the mid teens but fell off as of late.

I still can't believe Woodward gave him an 8 yr contract.

He could've given him 6.

That is plenty long enough.

We have more top 100 players and more 5* players than Houston who’s undefeated and ranked 3rd nationally. It ain’t the talent my man.

With a strength of schedule ranked 208 and a record of 5-4...

So he will probably get 5.1 mil to go away after 2024.

He does seem to have a good class coming in

I think he gets that 3rd year to try and turn it around.

You can't just compare teams like that.

How long have those players been on that team under that coach. He has been at Houston for years.

I'm not a McMahon fan but the talent on the lsu team isn't great.

He should've gotten better players out the portal this yr.

Only cook should be a starter at an upper sec team.

Gosh woody is a clown for giving him that.

Think how much NIL money we would have available if the payout for Orgeron and McMahon had been used wisely.

It’s not football, it doesn’t take long to learn systems in basketball and besides it’s the fundamentals and lack of diversity in what we run that continues to kill us. Other programs regularly have a lot of turnover in basketball but this doesn’t happen to them. It’s coaching.

Y’all must have forgotten the situation he walked into. He basically had to piece together a team his first year bc only like 2 players stayed. Facing sanctions, no good players would commit. Do he had to take whatever players he can get. Now that it’s over, I think lsu will have a better class of players and he can improve the product on the court. I would give him another year or so

Madking don’t care about that. Madking knew he sucked long before he was hired. Madking should be coach, imo.

It was a top 25 Recruiting class and KJ Williams. He may never bring in a better class

He signed two 4* players and a 5* last season and had the 15th ranked class to begin his career at LSU. We were picked as a bubble team and NIT lock but finished with 2 conference wins instead.

was thinking he was safe after this year but woody isn't afraid to admit fault and fire guys when the deserve it. MM has been so awful and hes forces woody hand and I expect him fired after this year
Edited to add this:
The PMAC on a Saturday at 12:30pm game was over half empty against a big 12 team. That explains all

It was #17 bc he had 11 players. It was more quantity not quality in that class.

He has the #4 PG and the #4 PF in the country committed. he will get the opportunity to get them signed and then will see what he can do. He isn't going anywhere and the constant whining by the premenstrual women is getting old. Either you are an LSU fan and will support the young men who give their time and effort to play for LSU or some old bittys whose lives are so pathetic you spend all your time trying to tear someone else down in order to build yourself up. I'm going with the latter.

Going into his tenure I think everyone would have said at least 3-4, at minimum. But I really don't think you can (or should) say that anymore.

Last year's preseason expectations were the lowest they had been in 6 years. Most who follow college basketball for a living felt LSU was going to be a middle-of-the pack SEC team. McMahon kept a few players from the 21-22 team, brought in some decent transfers (led by KJ Williams), and against all odds, signed a decent HS class. Reed and Ward were top 50-70 players (depending upon the ranking service) and Phillips was just outside the top 100. Unfortunately, the result was LSU finishing dead last in the SEC, tying the worst conference record in school history, including a 14 game losing streak. A streak where LSU was rarely competitive (11 of those 14 losses were by 10+ points). Needless to say, he came woefully short of meeting the lowest expectations in some time.

This season he flipped the roster once again. 8 new players. The HS recruiting class was only 2 guys (both sub-100 players) and his transfer class largely consisted of Louisiana born players. There was optimism that, at minimum, this team would be improved from last year. NCAAT improved? Doubtful. But better than last season. Thus far, that doesn't look to be the case. In fact, this team looks to be worse than last year. They've already lost at home to Nichols, and have double-digit losses to 2 of the 3 power conf. opponents they have faced. Currently they are 13th of 14 SEC teams in the Kenpom ratings and dropping like a rock (already out of the top 100). Could significant improvement start this weekend with a game vs. Texas and continue into SEC play? Sure. Anything is possible. But past and recent history suggest that is HIGHLY unlikely.

Assuming this team finishes at the bottom of the SEC once more McMahon would be left with having to flip the roster again (bringing in anywhere from 6-8 new players). That's the nature of college basketball today. Given he would have had two opportunities to put together rosters and failed miserably with both, why would there be any reason to believe the third time would be a charm? Particularly when LSU would be even less desirable to potential transfers than the last two seasons?

The ultimate GOAL (not expectation) for all power conf. teams is to develop a program that can compete for championships. If LSU has another poor season this year would there be any reason to think the program could realistically work towards that goal under McMahon? If not, then what is the point of keeping him as HC? Another season would not get LSU anywhere closer to one day competing for championship and would only be prolonging the inevitable. That being the case, it should be time to just cut losses and move on. Apathy has already set in among the fanbase. No one is going to the games. Worse, no one is really angry about the losses anymore. They are just expected at this point.

With the transfer rules in place it has NEVER been easier to rebuild a program. That also means patience is no longer a virtue. When Brady, Jones and Wade took over the only way they could immediately improve their rosters was through JUCO and HS signees. That meant improving the roster would take a bit of time. That's not the case anymore. A coach can have very few returning players but quickly put together a winning roster in year one (K-State and Missouri did just that last season). Not only has McMahon not put together winning rosters through the portal. He's not even putting together competitive rosters (now 5-20 vs. power conf. opponents...with most of the 20 being double-digit losses).

As an LSU fan I want McMahon to succeed because that means LSU is succeeding. Its the same feeling I had regarding Brady, Johnson, and Jones. But at some point you just have to be honest that success may not come under a coaching staff. So rather than just hope for something that won't happen, just accept the mistake and move on to try to fix it.
