Again are we talking about world war 1? If the US got to actually engage with what we invest in, Russia would have been thwarted almost immediately. Our strategy is with the Navy and air support, neither of which we have been able to use in this conflict.
This is just such a simpleton's argument
Also, do you honestly believe that we don't produce an incredible amount of goods annually? Why do you believe that we do not produce things in this country. And I'm talking about producing tactile goods, not services or things like technology. We have just offshore the very lowest level of production, because it makes no sense and a functioning worldwide system without major negative externalities.
Russia's economy is terrible. Why do you want to mimic that?

This post is so ridiculous that I almost don’t even want to address it.
We have a defense budget of $1.5T dollars. That’s TRILLION with a T. The money we give to Ukraine is on top of that. frick those guys.
If you want to argue that we don’t actually have that money, then, fine, I don’t disagree with you. But no one else does either. We’re the tallest midget in terms of debt.
I don’t support us being involved in the conflict in Ukraine at all. However, the love for Russia on this board is astounding to me. Russia is a mafia state run by a single, ruthless dictator. I hate that we are developing into a country ruled by a group of tech oligarchs, but you compare the soxiety that we have here to the society that exists in Russia is ridiculous on its face.
It’s country that is about to die. It’s invasion of Ukraine is the last gasp to reinvigorate its population and its industrial base.
frick Ukraine and frick anyone that thinks things are going well for Russia. That whole part of the world can rot for all I care.

The U.S. is the equivalent of an old money family in a rich neighborhood that has what used to be the biggest prettiest mansion on the block but due to family dysfunction and frivolous spending on all the neighbors houses to flaunt their wealth, the reality is they have almost maxed out their credit cards and the mansion looks nice on the outside but is starting to crumble on the inside
This is hilarious
If you apply this analogy to the world, everyone else has smaller maxed out credit (with some payday loans) in ghettos and trailer parks. Some countries are so poor they can't get credit and are homeless doing odd manual jobs for smokes (Russia)

America has twice as many people as Russia.
America's GDP is 10 times larger than Russia.
What the hell am I missing here?

Lol, two questions here:
1) Have you ever heard of the term "Russian oligarch?"
2) Are you suggesting that income inequality isn't more pronounced and out of control in Russia than it is in the United States?

Are you serious? Russia has our issues with this on steroids!

Cities are OK infrastructure wise....nothing to write home about. Get on some main roads outside of Moscow, especially to the south, you will rethink your statement

I guess the industrialization doesn't matter unless we need to fight a continental war.
WWII was won by America's vast industrial might. We don't have the industry to do that today.
The only way to beat the cheap labor trap is domestic robotics. I remember when the South had hundreds of textile mills and related factories. Now, the only one I can think of is a robotic that can produce high quality products at prices competitive with cheap international labor.

Why do you think we'd fight a war today like we did in WW2?
Jets and rocket propulsion/missile tech changed the game.

Hey, we can always order our parts from Guatemala, China and Indonesia.

The fleet is the smallest it’s been since WW1, it’s very overstretched, and due to the shipyard closures, we can’t build much very quickly. The Chinese can crank out ships. We can’t.
Aircraft we do still produce in numbers, but they’re one of the few things we still do.

I don’t

Russia is winning its war with Ukraine because they still make things. We’re losing it, because we don’t.

Our military supply chain relies on China, this includes, for example, domestically produced missiles.
