I literally grew up in a town like Mayberry. The barber by day would be the local cop at night. Loved growing up there. Rode bicycles around town and camped out in someone’s back yard in tents. My parents never once locked the doors to our house.

I still don’t lock my doors. Mayberry may be dying, but it isn’t totally gone yet.

One of the reasons why everybody was so happy in Mayberry is because no one was married… except Otis… and look how he turned out…

I found out about a year ago that Leon (the kid with the cowboy hat who was always eating a pb&j) is Ron Howard’s little brother.

Somehow, I can't see Floyd being the local cop. He was a deputy once, and that didn't turn out to well.

Also... wasn't Andy Griffith having a serious affair with Aneta Corsaut (Helen Crump)?

I think the Brady Bunch was pretty wholesome even though it came out later Mike Brady was into dudes and Greg Brady had the hots for his step mom. Alice was good people.

They tried a remake of "The Homecoming" on the CW and lost Ben in the process... but found him in "The Waltons' Thanksgiving". They actually weren't horrible.

It really is sad that that way of life is mostly gone.

Yep, small town in South Georgia. Before Walmart, you didn’t realize you didn’t “have everything you need.”

Town square with toy store, florist, 3 pharmacies, grocery store, 2 hardware stores, men’s clothing store, women’s clothing store, jewelry store, general merchandise store with shoes, furniture store, deli, ice cream place, hot dog place, breakfast place, full serve gas station, tv repair shop, sears catalog store, library… oh, and a Western Auto just off the square.

There were always festivals and events. Kids rode bikes all over. Halloween festival, tons of trick or treaters.

And looking back, it was even better before me. They had a movie theater, nice hotel, train depot, etc.

They had industry. Still huge for ag, but they had 2 sawmills and a plywood plant. None now. Sewing plant. Gone. Huge metal fabrication plant. Gone.

Then 1992 happened and it all changed. It’s an absolute dump now. Social services might be the biggest employer.

Too bad and puzzling that Andy Griffith was a flaming liberal in real life and a total a-hole He somehow kept that quiet for decades. His PR firm definitely earned their fees.

He lived long enough to endorse voting for Obamacare. POS.

A very cool Ron Howard story albeit long.

My brother living in Cali decades ago befriends this fella who is a custom carpentry guy. He said the mans gift was taking some chicken scratch drawing from a customer and then the panels he would produce were incredible.

Got a job at a womans house and tells her he has a letter from the sheriffs office as reference cause you see about 20 years ago, when I had just turned 18 I "borrowed" a car for about 5 hours before the cops arrested me so he had a felony record. Woman said no problem and he does the job.

A week later her son called him, being paranoid he goes into this babble about he will redo it, refund, the son says huh, my wife saw the work and wants you to do our kitchen.

He shows up at the house and its Ron Howard. He does the job and a couple of weeks later he gets mail from Ron. He tells my brother the guy probably got a lawyer, hates the work, Ill never get another job....hasnt even opened the letter. Gets a call from Ron asking why he has not RSVPed to the Christmas invite.

So he goes to Ron's Christmas party, Ron pulls him aside and says, there are going to be a lot of famous people here and not a one could design that kitchen in a 1000 years, remember that. So before he leaves Ron asked him if he had fun, and he said yeah a lot of people asked for my number when I told them I did the kitchen I was not a star. He said Ron looked at him and said, why do you think I invited you to the party, my mom told me about your problem.....everyone deserves a second chance.

Ron may also be a liberal but he learned some lessons from that show eh.

When the actress who played Aunt Bea died Goober was the only cast member who cared enough to attend her funeral.
