When the actress who played Aunt Bea died Goober was the only cast member who cared enough to attend her funeral.
which is surprising, as he bashed her in an interview I saw - he claimed she hit him w/an umbrella once

The actress who played the Darling girl said Bavier was always the "odd nan out". While other actors would socialize and gossip between shots she would keep to herself

He was pretty much a commie, as was the grandpa from the Waltons. Actually that guy was a commie and a pervert.
but this was well known in H'wood. Will Geer was actually blacklisted in the 50s.

What's fascinating about AG is how he kept it hidden for so long.

As a kid, I hated that old battle ax .

Even then, I bet Andy pined for Ellie after being saddled with that shrill b*+ch. Or Nurse Peggy. Or Nurse Mary….ooh la la!

and a total a-hole
my uncle went to UNC with him in the late 40s and was his best friend

they had a nightclub act together, my uncle left for Broadway about the same time Andy recorded “What It Was, Was Football” which launched his career

i never got the chance to meet the man, but my uncle thought highly of him to his death in 1991, so i’ll defer to his opinion

here’s a pic of Andy in the cast of The Lost Colony circa 1948, my uncle is the furthest guy on the right

Absolutely. Damn shame the younger generations haven’t enjoyed it. Perhaps someone will relaunch a program of similar integrity. We can always hope!

That is a huge reach. I in no way believe that at all. There can be some enjoyable things that don’t have to have ulterior motives behind them.

Actually the show did have some black folks as background characters.

. It’s basically the Hollywood vision of a typical southern town with no minorities, populated by a bunch of dumb rubes who tend to be suspicious of outsiders. The show is so well done and so beloved that no one ever picks up on it.

And... it is exactly what I would want my town to be. Teach my son the lessons. Imagine any town where a father sits and fishes with his son.

Episode just on had bill bixby as a teenager whose father was famous. Andy arrests him and he learns a valuable lesson. Opie breaks a window and Andy says his allowance will go to pay. Bixby says why punish - to learn consequences as a youth and to be responsible

At least one 1st season episode has black extras

And the last season one w/the football star

In between, the only one I recall is Ernest T gets drafted, where we see some black guys at the induction center. I am willing to be this was done at the insistence of the Army.

The followup Mayberry RFD had a black family as regulars, but I've never seen that.

wasn’t familiar with him, just read his wiki - I’m sure my uncle knew him

probably more a case of trusting the people he knew before he was famous and assuming everyone after was just sucking up

Didn't Andy Griffith make a commercial with Ron Howard supporting Obama when he was running?

Here's a thought, turn off the damn tv.

he shows up in some TV westerns, usually as a pompous blowhard. He's probably most notable as the big mouth deputy Paul Newman tricks in The Left Handed Gun.

He was only 37 when he died, but he photographed much older.

Too bad and puzzling that Andy Griffith was a flaming liberal in real life.

And a raging assclown to boot. Total curmudgeon. No one irl liked him. fricking hateful human being. It's legendary.

Massive Obama and Biden supporter. Called all Conservatives evil people. Said the United States would be better off when all Republicans die off.
