London has been doing this for years. Honestly this probably affects gee people in the NYC area. Parking is already absurd. Most people take the trains/taxi/Uber/ walk anyway.

I love how this makes posters here so angry. Few posters here have been to NYC, and there are likely only a couple who have ever or will ever drive in midtown Manhattan.
And further, act as if where they live doesn't have any similar restrictions on cars/parking/etc.

I include myself in the category of anybody. It won't miss me either. What's pompous and arrogant about that? I'm just as unimportant as you are to the city.

In just one day in the city just walking around I've encountered a Kazakh Wedding Party replete with ceremonial dress and a groom on horseback, A Presidential motorcade and a chat with Secret Service, and the best fresh bagel and lox you could imagine. Can't find that in Bunkie. But I also know what I'm talking about when I share my opinion of the city. It's not for everybody I'll grant you and you seem to be dug in... and that's allright.

There's some truth to what you're saying, on the other hand, it's ok to be philosophically opposed to certain concepts. Such as paying tolls to access already public roads...

2 men I knew, both long gone from this world.

One, a hillbilly from the mountains of North Carolina worked a job in his 20's cutting poplar trees for cigar boxes. He made one dollar a day. He had to walk 7 miles from his cabin to the crew rally point. Every morning. He also had to provide his own saw.

The other from post reconstruction South Carolina. He earned .50 a day hewing out railroad ties with an axe and said he was so glad to get the job. On balance, he ended up with extreme wealth from his work ethic, but you would never have known it to see how he lived his life. His miserable kids are still fighting over it.

Imagine how much more expense things will get once delivery trucks start having to pay this.

Cars- $15 a day
Taxis- $1.25 per ride
Rideshare Apps- $2.50 per ride
Small trucks- $24 a day
Large trucks- $36 a day

There is also a proposal for MTA rate increases.

Base rates for subway and bus increase to $2.90
Single ride ticket increase to $3.25
Monthly umlimited rides increases to $132 a month

all of these things end up the same…rich people don’t care, middle class pay it because they follow rules and don’t want credit ruined, lower class ignore it because they know there’s no true enforcement. just an extra tax on working taxpayers
you're more than welcome to become rich and not care or be lower class and ignore it

No I'm basing it the posters in this thread that can not fathom the idea that someone would not awed and impressed with the same things they are.

What you and Saint Alfonso can't seem to grasp is that it's the attitude that some of you are expressing that we're making fun of. You claimed to not like pompous people in NYC, but you're acting pompous with your rejection of NYC.

I completely get that it's not for everyone, but you've never been there, yet you're proudly claiming your justifications for not wanting to go there as if they're fully correct.

Saint Alfonso is just an angry man that I triggered somehow. Not sure what's up with that.

People "not caring" about "things that don't affect them" has enabled terrible policy and has lead to this country to start slowly circling the drain.
