Have the people who vote for this even seen how awful our defense was?

If any coach on our defensive side of the ball is 2nd worst in the country, then someone knows something I don’t know.

Nothing about our pass defense or scoring defense is ranked under 35 but congrats to steeples.

That’s a shame list. He isn’t an ace recruiter and his unit is part of why we aren’t dbu anymore.

Probably paid to be put on this list just like all the other 35 under 35 list

35 explosive plays given up per game.

Under 35

I think admins far more willing to give Cooks the boot (though if anyone cares I'd give them both the boot)

Nah man. I love that guy and think he’s an awesome person but he shouldn’t be the CB’s coach at LSU. Recruiting has been terrible, player management has been terrible, development has been terrible, and in-game results have matched the previous 3. Gotta actually produce in the real world at some point instead of just being a message board favorite

Is this for successfully defending fewer than 35 pass attempts on the year?

Few things:
1. Its not necessary an award for the best assistants under 35. In fact, its not an award at all. It's an invitation to attend the AFCA conference and only 35 are selected to join
2. Its primarily focused on leadership, not necessarily coaching skill or performance
3. You have to apply to be selected so its not necessarily that they went out and searched him down.

Imo the whole presentation of this is a little obtuse. No doubt Steeples is probably a great individual and probably a good leader, but the dude can't coach CBs as this level and for them to present this as an award for being one of the best 35 asst coaches under 35 is just false

I think any coach that has a job like he does at a school like LSU before turning 35 deserves to be on that list.

I don't think Steeples is a bad coach, I think he just bit off more than he could chew at the moment. LSU isn't a job where you can learn on the fly. He needs to go to a smaller school (maybe still P5), and learn the ins and outs of recruiting and the ins and outs of being a position coach. There is a lot that goes into it from technique to motivation.

Still doesn’t mean he’s a good coach . He stays on the field pre game when the team is in the locker room . Obviously he’s not needed with game plan help , that should tell you all you need to know .
