FSU just proved they can beat a top 15 team with their third string freshman QB - oh, and they won their conference championship and are undefeated. That means the rest of that team is pretty damn good and deserves to go to the playoffs!

That lost to 6-6 Kentucky at home just last week.

I know transitive property doesn't really tell the story, but that was the same Kentucky team that got blasted by 28 points at home against Alabama and by 38 points on the road against Georgia.

Auburn lost to New Mexico State and the great Alabama needed a miracle Hail Mary to win. You can play that game all day.

Bama had a chance to go undefeated and didn’t. Florida State is undefeated.

You can’t drop Florida State in the rankings after a top 15 win to seal an undefeated conference championship run.

The fact that this is even complicated is a joke by itself

Says that’s a criteria to look at between “otherwise comparable teams.”

So not applicable between an undefeated power 5 and a one loss one.

The same New Mexico State who competed for its conference championship? Say what you want about the level of competition, but NMSU is a 9-win FBS team in 2023.

How did Ohio State do in the CFP with their 3rd string QB?

FSU deserves to be in.

Sorry Bama.

College football really needs to get out of this mentality. Just about every other sport, it’s pretty common for the champion to not be the best team talent wise.

If you want the “best teams” to always play for it all, then just put the top 4 talent composite teams in the playoff and skip the whole season.

This shouldn’t matter if they’re 13-0 and P5 conference champs

What’s the cutoff too. Injured left tackle? Top WR?

What’s the cutoff in the opposite direction? If you think they shouldn’t take into account an injured QB, should they take it into account if the entire offense was injured and unavailable for the playoff? Or should it not matter that it would be essentially a new team?

Except that the chairman has said that their job is to put forth the best 4 teams. No one in the country believes that this iteration of Florida State is one of the best 4 teams.

if Florida State played Alabama tomorrow, who would be favored?

FSU, because the starting qb is already out.

FSU looked better with their backup QBs than Bama did with theirs. Milroe could get injured in practice this week or in the first snap of a playoff game.

Why should any of that matter? Team results on the field.

Best four teams are Georgia, Bama, Texas and one of Ohio State/Michigan

We’re already eliminating Ohio State and Georgia due to a criteria other than “best team” (conference championship/title)

We'd be saying, "we lost once on opening day, but then ran the table from there on, winning the hardest division in the hardest conference and beating a two time national champ who hasn't lost in two years, but we're still just the eighth best team in the country??"

I understand the anti-Bama sentiment here but this isn't the right result. The SEC champ should always have a seat at the table.

This is stupid.

The undefeated ACC champ should always have a seat at the table.

not if other conferences step up and compete

the discussion is Bama vs UT, both one loss conference champions. luckily this year the commuter actually has head to go off of which makes it easy

The problem is if they get in the playoffs they're going to look like Iowa does tonight and no one wants to see that shite.

Why the hell shouldn’t matter what “no one wants to see”?

FSU is an undefeated P5 champion. They, along with Michigan and Washington who are also undefeated P5 champs, deserve to get in before anyone else. Then figure out the last team in.

I love watching college football, but this whole process just shows what an absolute joke it all is.

I see no reason to show ACC champs deference over SEC champs.
