And I don't mean the videos of people walking out of the stores in CA with arms full of clothes

For all the making fun of those videos we do here, the truth is that a huge portion of society steals just in different ways.

I started selling on Amazon about 4 months ago and the attempts of people to steal are staggering. The most common is an item not recieved claim or people swapping out their broken item for a new one and returning the old one.

I dealt with a Doctor today (I looked him up) who made an INR claim for a $400 product despite UPS taking pictures of the delivery. Amazon refunded him but did not count it against me but that's only because I shipped through them. Had I bought shipping not through Amazon I would be out the $400.

I also dealt with one woman returning a broken superglued piece. She obviously used the item she bought from me and sent back her old one. Just a real piece of human garbage.

I sell some stuff FBA (fulfilled by Amazon) and some FBM (fulfilled by merchant) and both are subject to fraud but FBA is worse and costs more to fight.

I read the Amazon seller forums almost daily and the amount of scams people have going on is staggering. People are returning rocks and other trash so the return package shows weight for when Amazon investigates a seller complaining about a return. Also, according to many long-time sellers on the forums, this is the worst it's ever been as more and more people feel emboldened that they will get away with it. There is a whole forum on Reddit dedicated to sharing tips on how to scam Amazon and make INR claims.

When an item is returned through FBA Amazon does not even check it or open it. They move it to unfillable inventory for which the seller has to request Amazon either dispose of it, send it back to you to inspect, or sell it for pennies in a return pallet auction so a lot of times you don't even know if its fraud unless you pay to have Amazon send the product back to you. Even then, you still have an uphill battle of ever getting any money back for a fraudulent return.

I know inflation is OOC but I now wonder how much price increases are to offset the rise in theft and fraud.

In short, the vast majority of people steal just in different forms. Scamming on Amazon is no different than the videos we see of people walking into a store and just taking stuff yet I wonder how many people scamming on Amazon would do that and/or look down on people who do it. There really is no difference between the two.

Not sure how you combat the Amazon stuff... you can return anything on Amazon.

So when we say it's "culture", it's applied to all races now? I'm confused. I think we need a word for every race.

This is why I only use reputable sites like Facebook Marketplace.

I've wondered if Amazon keeps track of how many times a buyer claims to not having received an item and/or the item is received broken.

Do you know if Amazon monitors those stats by individual buyer?

That did happen but I think Amazon put a stop to it. The rest I agree with.

I agree. My work sells a product online, and we can verify receipt of item by the user, but if they file a chargeback with their CC company, we lose the dispute 80% of the time even when providing evidence, plus not only do we lose the sale, the user keeps the item, but we get hit with a chargeback fee.

I hate that people are doing this and have very little chance of getting caught or punished.

Luckily I have only one little story...
Went to Autozone last week to get a windshield crack repair kit. I get home and go to open the container and some lowlife had cut it open with a razor blade and taken the resin out and glued it back together.
They gave me no issues on doing a swap out for a new kit, but annoying to have to deal with.

I feel like I read this exact comment somewhere before. Here or on reddit

Part of it is the stores conditioning people that they’ll take anything back for exchange or store credit.

Not going to lie, I’ve brought back 2-3 year old rods to Academy and exchanged for new ones. No questions asked.

People on this forum also openly talk about stealing digital media, jailbroken firestick, whatever.

I get downvoted for saying that is no better than the POS that rob stores

0 product despite UPS taking pictures of the delivery

I have seen videos of security cameras showing the delivery person dropping package off, taking the picture, then picking it up and stealing it

I went into Walmart in a pinch to buy some golf balls before a golf trip recently. Every box of Callaway Chromesoft's ($49) had the sleeves of balls swapped out with Noodle golf balls ($18). Any other balls worth hitting were the same.

Are you sure about that? I just bought some items a few weeks back, worth $500. They were delivered (not through Amazon), but all were stolen. The seller was not required to offer a refund and did not do offer one since their was proof of delivery via photo. Can't you just do the same?

Fortunately, I had something called "purchase protection" insurance on my credit card. I had to submit a police report and send my bank several pieces of information, and eventually got the refund, to my surprise, since I had no proof that the items were stolen.

Unless you're a major volume or huge company, selling on Amazon is a loser even with good sales #s. They will charge you back and don't give a damn about QA on customer returns.

The "random" receipt checks at places like Walmart and Sam's amuse me.

The receipt checker will watch me scan each of my items, pick up my bags, walk directly towards them, and still check my receipt every time. Others will have an unmarked unbagged big screen TV and walk right by and won't be stopped
