re: Elko would've won more at Duke if Riley Leonard stayed healthy. Best hire for aTm.

I keep seeing this — “Kelly”…. Chip Kelly? Because, until Elko wins a Conference title or two, he’s not better. He COULD be better than Chip Kelly WAS at Oregon, maybe.

Comparing Elko to Chip Kelly at UCLA….maybe? Elko’s been a HC 2 years, not 6, 8, or 10. So, I’m not sure after 6 years at Duke Elko would have a .500 record. We’ll see after a couple years at A&M what kinda coach Elko is.

People acting like 7-5 at Duke with a second string QB, is easy.

Cutcliff did it 5 times on the backend of his tenure, with a 10 win season.

be interested to see how he does without older players. Only 4/22 on the first string depth chart this year at Duke were true Juniors or younger

Interesting.

Some might say that David cutcliffe left him with a good situation

David Cutcliffe led Duke to a 10 and 9 win season. I think Elko is a good hire but the Atlantic coast hast talent.

Yeah because he barely had a winning percentage in a bad ACC conference. Oh yeah his track record is 100% better than kelly's. You basically got stoops from UK but stoops is more proven than Elko if we're being honest.

Nah, man. You don’t get it. Elko has accomplished more in 2yrs as an HC than Kelly has in 32rys.

Amazing how winning 16 games at Duke can make you this great hire

Elko would have lost more if he didn’t walk into a situation where he was handed a 1st round QB.

You can play hypotheticals all day.

I think Elko is the hottest name out there right now currently at a stepping stone school.

There were a lot more coaches I would have been more worried about. It’s not a horrible hire but I think the aggies found out that their job was not as coveted as they thought it was. Elko at Duke is 9-7 in ACC games. Exactly one of those victories came against a team with a winning conference record.

A&M will give Elko 8 million a year when they could have signed him for 5 million or less. Nobody else wanted this guy. The got desperate once Stoops pulled out.

This hire reminds me so much of LSU hiring Gerry Dinardo. He had modest success at Vandy but was given extra credit because it was a "non-football" school.

They beat Clemson and NC State early on. Outside of that their schedule up until ND was a joke. They then lost a ton of games against mediocre ACC teams.

He’s a good coach and did well there, but the ACC is not a good conference. It’s actually mediocre outside of maybe FSU and Clemson on a good day.

I’m sure Elko will have Aggy at 1939 levels in no time

Elko was at Duke! He will have a much better roster and should get the team to compete. Fisher wasn't into it since he just played Texas A&M. Texas A&M is in better hand with Elko as the HC.

He will face significantly tougher competition in the SEC, so I am not sure he is going to improve over Jimbo as some believe.

He is a very good coach, but not a needle mover.

He used the portal well to really build a team at Duke quickly. That doesn’t mean he can build a championship team for Aggie.

Don’t be worried. Trust the fact that A&M hasn’t been relevant for over 100 years.

It’s not because of bad luck. It’s because their culture is a culture of “losers”
