The Herb/Dyson backcourt is a terror defensively for the opposition. Also helps that both can handle the ball and shoot decently from 3. What to do when CJ is back?

And Trey.

But yeah Dyson and Herb on the floor together is a nightmare for opposing teams.

It certainly is an interesting dilemma to have…I would imagine he goes straight back in the starting lineup rightly or wrongly.

And whilst I can’t imagine anyone is on board with CJ giving up his starter role and minutes…(and we shouldn’t be)he offers scoring for the most part, and we don’t desperately need his scoring with Zion and BI.

We need his scoring when one of those 2 go to the bench.

Who starts between Dyson and CJ is pretty irrelevant to me but Dyson needs to keep getting 20+ minutes every night

It's 5-0 with the specific Dyson/Herb/BI/Zion/Jonas starting 5.

What seems to be a trend is we start off hot, teams can’t stop our scorers but our perimeter guys can stop theirs… and then when the bench comes in, we lose scoring.

Does CJ coming in off the bench to supply a second punch and keep the momentum going?

Once Trey and CJ come back… IF we don’t have another major injury… this is a top 4 team in the NBA.

It’s a weird dilemma. In the “regular” lineup Herb is really the only one that plays defense with consistent effort. Zion is terrible on the defensive end, so you almost need Herb and Dyson out there with him to offset that. It seems like it can be difficult for CJ, BI, and Zion to all get into a groove when they’re playing together.

I think our reality is we have a “big 2” with clearly defined roles for everyone else…except an aging CJ. There’s a thought among some that we have a “big 3” and I don’t really see it that way.

CJ is light years better than Dyson offensively, but that’s precisely why I think Dyson should remain in the starting lineup.

Get CJ on the court with Hawkins and Trey. Guys that can spread the floor and knock down open shots that CJ can create with his driving ability. I don’t know how Willie can justify scrapping what’s working.

Jose, CJ, Trey, Hawkins, and Lance as a second Unit can probably outmatch most other second units. Also, gives us the luxury of subbing in any of those guys for starters if they are struggling to score.

Cody Zeller was excellent in the minutes he was given the last game he played. Willie has a good decision to make concerning our backup center.

It's a real problem, because Cody has looked better. But Larry is such an important voice in the locker room (he called the team meeting), and his voice doesn't carry the same weight if he's not playing.

That's the same reason that Garrett Temple kept getting minutes two years ago, until we brought CJ in.

I don't see how you mess with that. The Pels have been trying to find team chemistry it seems forever. Plus you have a good reason to start CJ off slowly. I can't imagine CJ complaining if the winning continues with him coming off the bench more often.

I don’t think there’s any chance CJ comes off the bench, but there’s no reason why he can’t start and play a few minutes then come back when BI is subbed out, or something like that

I'm sure Willie will get Dyson minutes, he's earned them. The question is, how many of those minutes will be paired with Herb? I really want them to test some unbalanced lineups. JV + Shooters has worked this season, I would think Zion + Shooters has a chance. Let's give BI + Defenders a try too.

When the smoke clears...and things get serious come playoff time...I expect to see BOTH Herb and Dyson playing at the same time (especially closing time). Seems obvious to me that they make each one's "value" much higher, when they play at the same time. Compliment each other...and their ability to "work together" will only improve as the season progresses. I kinda like seein' Herb turned loose out there as an off-ball defender...and roaming all over the court...like some kinda wild "Mad Dog"...on defense.

You shouldn't, there's zero chance that happens unless we have injuries.

I wouldn't even phrase it like that. I'd say both of them are good enough to make BI/Z/JV negative value on defense not matter. What we often talk about star players doing for role players offensively, a Steve Kerr type playing next to Jordan only needs to hit open shots for example, the combo of Herb and Dyson has that effect on defensive role players like Zion, BI and JV.

This. Also, they value each possession and know their role. They don’t chuck up a quick dumb three after getting a great defensive stop.

I hear what yall are saying and I don’t think yall wrong. I would just start CJ again for floor spacing purposes with BI and Zion in the same lineup. I would still give Dyson, Trey, Hawkins and Jose plenty of minutes tho. We’re actually a team that’s a good 9 deep when healthy.
