LSU would have a legit chance at 12 team playoff

this year. Seems crazy. Is that really a good thing for college football? The playoff needed some expanding but 12 is just too much. It waters down the product.

I just don't want to see further expansion to 16 or more. That would absolutely dilute it.

And if so would play first round at say Washington in Seattle or Ohio st , Michigan

I actually thought 6 was the perfect number, giving the top two teams byes.
But I could live with 8. Having 12 is a joke. Rarely does any team past 6 have a legit argument to make the playoffs. There are only 8 teams currently that have an argument, and a few of them could have two losses by selection Sunday.

It would make so many more games right now relevant, wouldn't that be good for college football?

Imagine LSU hosting a home playoff game with Ohio St, Notre Dame, Michigan, USC, etc coming into baton rouge. And then tell me how that's a bad thing.

It would make a lot of the games that already happened irrelevant

That’s not how it would work. Lsu would be traveling to those schools in the first round. Later rounds would be “bowl games”.

The expanded playoffs can’t get here soon enough; no one wants to watch the opt-out weedeater bowl anymore.

No they really don’t. A thread should be stickied.
IT IS NOT THE TOP 12 TEAMS!!!

It may seem that way right now but wait until UT and OU join the SEC and then the added possibility of another conference game each year. Will not seem nearly as “watered down”.

The new 12-team College Football Playoff field will include the six highest-ranked conference champions, which will receive automatic bids. The top four teams will receive a first-round bye to the quarterfinals. The six highest-ranked teams remaining will round out the 12-team format.

It’s the power 5 conference champs, best group of 5 team, and 6 at large.

If it's not a square, cube, etc of 2 it's dumb.

If given the choice between 4 or 12, I’d take 12, any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. Transitioning to a playoff system was inevitable, but was completely asinine to do only 4 team.

This is my feeling on it as well. Everybody talks about CFB having “the best regular season in sports” and how the expanded playoff waters that down, but the way I see it the playoff makes more games matter. Instead of only 6-8 teams having something to play for in November, it will be 15+ teams.
It does make the games slightly less impactful for the undefeated (and to a lesser extent 1-loss) teams, but they’re still playing for first round byes, home field advantage, and conference titles.
So for me it’s not so much about how many teams have a “legitimate” claim.. it’s about what makes CFB most entertaining. If anyone still gave a shite about bowl games I might feel differently but that ship sailed whenever the 4-team playoff started.
