And yes, theres a good chance they finish in the top 12 after the regular season/conference title games are over

Some of y’all are still missing the point. Just because you are ranked 12 doesn’t mean you’ll get in under the new format.

And we’d get out arse kicked in the 2nd rd. No tks.

we havent gotten our arse kicked all year but 1 half vs FSU after we dominated the 1st half. may get beat but im all for making more regular season games meaningful and more high level cfb.

Not this year. Unlikely to climb to #12 with only one game left. Regardless, 12 teams is too diluted; top 8 should be the max for football.

You are talking about a team possibly playing 5 post-season games (6 with a conference championship game) after a 12 game regular season. There is no way in hell college presidents would allow that to happen.

they already do.

FCS has a 24-team playoff and no one complains about the number of games. 16 of those teams don't get a bye and would have to play 5 games to win the championship.

The only difference is FCS plays an 11 game regular season.

I actually thought 6 was the perfect number, giving the top two teams byes.

I've always liked 6 as the optimal number. The byes reward the regular season without stretching out the season with teams who shouldn't be there. And while I love the playoff overall, (especially the annual humiliation of Midwestern media darlings), I do hate that New Year's Day is no longer relevant to college football. I know that started well before the playoff, but still, it's sad to see the death of a holiday. Cabbage and black-eyed peas just can't carry it on their own.

We would get smoked by all of these teams, even when JD has 6 TDs

And we’ve lost backup after backup since then. Our defense is no better, arguably worse now.

The defense is so far beyond terrible this year I don’t think we’d get to the natty in a 12 team format. It’s the worst defensive team I’ve seen since the Lou Tepper 90s

The new 12-team College Football Playoff field will include the six highest-ranked conference champions, which will receive automatic bids. The top four teams will receive a first-round bye to the quarterfinals. The six highest-ranked teams remaining will round out the 12-team format.

With the radical changes in conference alignment, will this formula remain in place? The PAC 12 is gone. I think the deal will be revised.

Who cares really. With this defense there is ZERO % chance of winning out in the playoffs.

4 is definitely too few.

When has #5 really in a position to argue being the best team in college football?

The absolute max should have been 6
