I believe it’s time for Doug Moreau to hang up the headphones

I listened to the second quarter last night on the radio, WWL The Big 870 to be precise, and Ole Doug was having a hard time.
He hasn’t offered much analysis for a while, they usually cut to Gordy Rush for that, but Gordy was having mic issues all night, leaving Doug to fumble around. Plus he called Georgia State Georgia Southern every time. It was a really tough listen.
Doug is 78, is an LSU legend, man of the law…it’s time for a graceful retirement.

I was calling them Georgia Southern all night too.

Doug and Jim were great together. Neither one of them are doing well from what I hear. Jim is 80 years old.

I mean he didn’t sound sickly or senile. He just sounded like he’s almost 80. It is what it is.

Something good about Hawthorne retiring is that Blair doesn't let Moreau drone on and on like he used to.

As far as I am concerned, Moreau can stay for as long as he wants. If Joe Biden can be the leader of the free world, Doug Moreau can be our color commentator. I have been listening to the broadcasts for a long time, and the only color commentators I can recall are Doug Moreau and Walter Hill.

Honestly. I’ll get downvoted, but Doug isn’t very good. Never has been. His color commentary doesn’t actually add to the value.

He missed a year due to health
Might have been the covid season
Gordy needs to go up to booth and you can find a new sideline reporter

Moreau can only get through two highlights at halftime. It's a rough scene

Walter Hill.
With Jon Ferguson doing the play by play.
Ferguson was WBRZ and who was the fellow from WAFB who was the stadium announcer? I can hear their voices now. And announcing doctors code numbers to call exchange all during the game.

Which era? Ferguson? Borne’ was one since the 80’s from what I recall.

I had to go pick up my son about a minute or 2 into the 4th quarter and tuned in. He didn’t say a word for about 10 or 15 minutes of airtime. It was all Chris Blair and sideline report from Gordy. Assume he was getting a hot dog or something.

John Ferguson had the best radio voice and was very erudite in his descriptions of plays.
Sid Crocker was the announcer. Doctor # 438 please call medical exchange.

That irked me every time he did it.

Yeah, I caught the same part of the broadcast driving home from work. Came away with the same opinion.
I dont know if the public likes him but Gordy Rush aint bad. I assume he does not have a conflict of interest with his part of Guaranty Broadcasting.

This happens so much with broadcasters. So many of them seem to think if Vin Scully can do it, so can they.
Doug was a tremendous player and for many years a very good commentator, but his best days are definitely behind him by a few years.
Hope he realizes it and can bow out gracefully.

He is okay for 78, but he is 78.
Everyone naturally slows down as they age. You often don’t realize it yourself since you see and hear things from your own perspective.
There is a lot going on for a color analyst to see in about 5 to 10 seconds that a play takes from snap to whistle. Then you have to articulate what you are seeing to the listeners within another 10 to 20 seconds before the next play.
He does an okay job but is not as observant and descriptive as he once was.
Maybe he’s looking to retire at 80?
