Should new cars be prevented from exceeding 100mph?

NTSB recommending installed technology to prevent reckless speeding
My first instinct is to say frick the gubment, I'll drive 120 in my Sonata if I want to! But the reality is there is no way I will ever drive over 100 mph on purpose and I hate people who do - drag racing assholes on the highway, criminal thugs fleeing from police, drunk NFL players (hello Henry Ruggs). This is one of those rare situations where I think common sense is overwhelming my libertarian instincts.

NTSB’s proposed solution: Adopting Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA). Rather than preventing a vehicle from ever exceeding a given threshold, ISA uses geolocation to automatically reflect the legal limit on a given street or highway. “Passive” ISAs issue audible or haptic alerts to drivers who exceed the top programmed speed, hopefully compelling them to slow down. “Active” ISAs intervene in the car’s mechanics, often by requiring the driver to apply extra force on the accelerator. ISAs can be set to kick in a few miles above the posted speed limit, giving drivers the ability to go faster when, for instance, passing a vehicle in the slow lane

In a libertarian paradigm, obviously not. As a libertarian living in a decidedly non-libertarian society, considering the constant onslaught of nanny state bullshite, I’m genuinely surprised this hasn’t already happened.

All cars should be on tracks like Hot Wheels

You down for breathalyzers being mandatory as well?
Posted on 11/18/23 at 12:52 pm to dcw7g
No, you could bypass it with a tuner anyway.

Being able to interfere with the operation of a vehicle from anywhere but the driver's seat sounds terrifying.
Governors; okay. Pretty gay but at least you can work around them. Software, geotracking, etc.,? Go frick yourself.

Let's ban fast cars, guns, and alcohol. We'd save a lot of lives. To be honest, rock music probably needs to go as well.

You need a cooler car. I go a hundred all the time.

How would my wife get to work on time?

Nope.
I want the technology put in place that if it detects you in the left lane and you are not passing someone in the right lane or avoiding an obstacle it swerves you hard to the left into the nearest tree.

Been reading that guy's tweets. He keeps saying how Europe does it better but no mention of the fact that they have Autobahns. Much like guns we have a moron problem not a car problem.

It's legislating stupid

Only limit it on chargers, challengers and Camaros

Just move out of the left lane for me. It’s not your job to police my driving. I drive safely, but I drive fast on the interstate.

And in five years time, the government will be dynamically controlling the speed that you can drive at, at all times.
And eventually, they will limit the times when you can drive, and where you’re allowed to drive.
You can see that with the Chinese social credit system.
If you care about personal freedom, technology invariably a bad thing.

No one is even talking about how incompetent our government is. How about when their Speed Control Software crashes or gets hacked and it won't let any cars drive on the interstate nationwide? Or only lets us go 5mph?

Less government. Don’t try to enforce laws by regulating companies. Enforce the laws when someone breaks them. Next thing you know, nobody will need to have more than X amount of ammo because common sense says so.
I’d have no issue if the car manufacturer regulated this, but not the government.
