If you are an established candidate, why would you take an offer less than the one that the coach before you secured?

They want championship results at a discount price.

Frick that. You want me to move from current major job, I want what Jimbo got because the work load and expectations are the same.

Not taking a discount.

Aggy is either going to hit a homerun since they already had their man and fired jimbo early. Or they are going to frick it up royaly. My money is on frick it up since that is what their history shows.

This ^^. If they are planning on hiring their next coach in the next two weeks... that tells me the coach probably wants to wait until the regular season is over out of respect for his current players. Which means Lanning and DeBoer are out. Has to be Elko since he probably recruited a lot of the aTm players when he was there. If it's someone else then they will probably have a lot of transfers and basically have to start over in year 1 of Texas/OU joining the SEC

No, they will overpay for someone to get them to 8-4. Things are going exactly as planned

For them to get an arguably good coach it’d have to be a once-good coach that has faded and desperately needs a chance at elevating but without too high expectations.

Well since they just cut their HC and kissed 70+ million good bye, they better have their guy.

They are the most "grass is greener" program in the history of sports. All the attributes point to them being successful, but they completely drop the ball every single time.

Half of Jimbo's deal would still be stupid money.

What problem? A&M has all the resources, and we are a LOT more patient than many programs. Average coach lasts six years or longer ...

Whoever A&M hires will be getting a raise, and a bigger budget for his staff than he currently has now.

Their previous coach had a national champ ring as a HC and also one as a OC.

The new coach regardless how much cash is thrown at him will be expected to accomplish something never before done at TAMU - be relevant.

This year is a weird year because there isn't some obvious guy from the lower levels knocking on the door of the big boys.

Means we might actually take a gamble and hire someone that isn't a home run, which isn't a bad thing.
