Sam's targeting call was the proverbial horse in the bed.

It was targeting by the current rules.Nothing more.
“Targeting,” like holding, can be called on every play by the “letter of the law…” the fact that they chose to pluck Sam’s hit out of that play, when no one on the field or tv had a clue what was being reviewed….that was telling. The sec refs didn’t even wait til a decent hit happened…

Are you thinking that the not reviewed penalty against Daniels last week, then the not penalized review on Sam this week that led to his ejection are just coincidental?
And a followup to that would be what is your interpretation of the Devin White ejection compared to the Turner non-ejection?
I was with a former SEC head coach for the devin white hit, his exact words when the hit was shown - he's gone.
1. it starts with the white hats view and opine, you can't imagine how fast that stuff happens in real life.
2. the angles and views that replay has aren't always the same as what networks show.
and... there are 140 plays in a game. Few people notice when a guy misses a block or makes a wrong read or coach makes a wrong call.. but.... when an officials call is show 11 times everyone has an opine and 99.999% of those people would fail a rules test miserably.
my guess on turner's hit is replay saw something we didn't.

Not true. Contact with crown of the helmet must be accompanied by at least one of four indicators of targeting for it to be called targeting.

Interesting how these threads bring out the trolls.

Openly calling out the SEC office on national media ruffled a few feathers in Birmingham for sure!!
When the hell did he do that before the game? I have sorely disappointed that he didnt light them up last week.

you mean people that have never been on a field after their jr high or hs days?

That's probably a bigger challenge to the league, because it isn't just trolling or coachspeak. We don't know how he worded what he sent in, but yesterday post-game he went on record as saying Turner's hit was clearly intended to hurt a player. If he went so far as to say in the letter "I realize that this was a marquee matchup and the home crowd's emotions were in it, but ..."
then THAT would be a quiet accusation of Bama bias.
Which might well have resulted in the targeting call they hit us with, a way of saying 'we could eject half your team if you don't shut up'.

Kelly said the officials on the field said it was reviewed but found out later that it wasn't
If Devin's hit was targeting, Turner's sure as frick was

I, for one, don't give a damn about the conference and will not ever cheer for an sec team to win a championship. Conference loyalty is stupid
Me too. So glad neither Georgia or Bama have a chance at beating any of the other top teams this year.

What's a 15000 dollar fine gonna do to Kelly? That's pocket change.

Now do the running back

Calls on the field are incredibly difficult and will always be inconsistent, esp if you’re out there on Thurs and Fri nights
I always keep in mind that the vast majority of officials just have a desire to remain close to the game and have an appreciation for it
Lord knows it can’t be the money, b/c yall don’t get paid enough. LOL
My questions only relate to when these plays are being reviewed.
It is my contention that the only sensible explanation to the 3 outcomes of the targeting calls in question is some sort of bias.
No sane human being could be asked to review these and determine a ruling on them with these results. Not possible.

1. As shown last night, the replay official and the league office can force the white hat to view the replay. I still don't know why that didn't happen in the Daniels case, which leads to #2
2. This is exactly why the league needs to be more transparent about how and why it makes those decisions. If there is some angle that perfectly showed Turner didn't hit Daniels square on the jaw, I would like to see it. I've spent all week ripping Bammers who refuse to see the contact I see, but none of them show me anything that proves me wrong. If the SEC has something like that, they should be open about it. They should also be willing to say, "Hey, the game is fast, and the ref missed that call. It happens." I would like to think fans would have more respect for the league if they ever did that. But, they don't: they never admit the ref got it wrong.
GEAUX TIGERS!

That is not calling out the league officials in a heinous way. That is pretty much the standard reply given when someone asks about an officiating call in a press conf or other public address. Each team sends in film of calls they thought were incorrect every week. This is more for improvement of officiating and evaluation of personnel. Rarely do these submissions get a public acknowledgement and darn sure will will not change the outcome of the game. However the SEC could have reviewed this play and suspended Turner. The most common situations that get some public comment are disciplinary issues like fights.
