…besides oil? Every vehicle I’ve had made it to 200k miles without ever changing brake fluid, flushing my transmission, etc.

Just left from an oil change, and the amount of people that spends hundreds after being told they need these things amaze me.

Heard a lady just spent $500 for them to change her battery after they told her it was going bad. I almost stepped up and told her to follow me to AutoZone. After oil change, brake fluid change, battery, and of course she needed an air filter…her husband is going to be happy with that $1100 bill he just got.

Time is really the enemy also. If you put that 200k on in 8-10 years you may get away with that.

I'm a believer in changing the fluids when they need it sometimes even sooner than the factory recommends.

On my Tundra Toyota says to change the transmission fluid every 60k if you tow. On a Ford F150 with a 10 speed they recommend 150k regardless.

On both vehicles I change it at 60k. Brake fluid every 3 years or so. Coolant at 100k. If you DIY fluids are pretty cheap compared to brake master cylinders, transmissions, differentials, and water pumps.

Nope, but thanks for the reminder to switch to the winter air in tires.

be careful with that.
there are some batteries now that you have to remove half of the front end of the car just to get to them..

I was able to change the transmission fluid on the previous vehicle I had, but with the current one, it's too difficult, so I have to take it in, but I don't plan on doing that until it reaches 100k miles.

I always change my oil myself, and put synthetic in my car every 9-10k miles, and it probably costs me around $50 for the oil and filter. I changed the air filter along with the oil last time, it was around $25, if I remember correctly.

I don't know how much it costs to have somebody do the routine maintenance on my vehicle. My dad taught us when when we were young, and I enjoy doing it.

Idk why.

I'd never trust a wife or daughter to go to an auto repair shop alone. Women get scared super easily and put any doubt or creep in their mind, and they'll run with it for 10 marathons. Mechanics know this and use it to rip them off. That'll be a rule I have. Only I can take cars or go with you to an auto repair shop.

Have you not looked into scheduled maintenance on your fake 3/4 ton you bought? You can afford it.

No surprise here. My wife got conned into a cabin filter/air intake filter with her standard oil change at Take 5. Spent $165. I was livid. I'm pretty sure half the bill was the oil change, and understandable a 5 minute oil change is strictly a service charge.

Last week I bought the air intake and cabin filters for less than $40 total and showed her so she can see how bad she got ripped off initially. They didn't even rotate the damn tires.

Diffs every 100k. Tcase every 100k. Trans drain and fill every 30k. Oil every 10k. Oil filter every 20k. Belts every 100k. Tensioners every 100k.

Air filter every 20k (they are extremely cheap)

I definitely have sticker shock for auto batteries. Mine was $300 at Auto Zone about 6 months ago.

I don't know why but in my head batteries are still like $80, and I replace them so infrequently I guess I forget how expensive they are now.

Yes, I change my rear end, transmission, flush the coolant system and replace fluid releasing air with coolant system kit which I usually change the thermostat & gasket, and flush brake fluid when the brake fluid tester shows it getting close.

I’ve changed transmission fluid before but a lot of new vehicles have sealed transmissions where you can’t do it anymore.

I’ve flushed a radiator too.

Changing brake fluid isn’t necessary
