You obviously don't know that I have pointed out the same things in other threads over the years here.
However, building a bunch of stuff isn't quite the same as losing millions of citizens and soldiers. Losses our people never would have accepted.
Yes, our manufacturing guaranteed Germany would lose. The Soviets did far more of the heavy lifting when it came to actual battle. ie-Killing Germans while getting lot of their own killed as well.
Yep, the USSR lost 675,000 (not casualties, but killed or MIA) in Stalingrad alone. That's insane.

Episode 7 is up.
ETA: P-51 Mustangs in this episode.

I haven't done a lot of reading on this particular set of WWII history, so if my question is stupid I apologize.
Throughout their bombing run scenes they show the squadrons in the high line not being affected by flak and fighters.
Why even have a low line?
ETA: So on March 6, 1944 they got slaughtered but two days later the P-51s were there to make the mission a success?

I’m not going to pretend to know the history that some in this thread know, but from this episode it seemed like a completely different bombing run with the fighter support.

I think a lot of it had to do with the inability of the Germans to replace their lost fighters. So it would make sense that the second run saw a lot less issues.
Remember, too, that the American bombing raids were targeting industrial sites as well, making it harder for Germany to crank out more planes and supplies.
Found a quote on Wiki too:
“Raiding the German capital, the USAAF reasoned, would force the Luftwaffe into battle. Consequently, on 4 March, the USSTAF launched the first of several attacks against Berlin.[34] Fierce battles raged and resulted in heavy losses for both sides; 69 Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses were lost on 6 March but the Luftwaffe lost 160 aircraft. The Allies replaced their losses; the Luftwaffe could not.[35]”

Also, Croz’s new women is smoking. Shame she is a spy.

I looked at my family at the beginning of this episode and said I wish we could see some P-51s in this series. They certainly delivered.

Of the 48 missions my grandfather flew out of Italy he could remember the exact date and mission that the first squadron of escorts equipped with those paper mache drop tanks flew to the target and back. It drastically reduced their losses.

Maybe i need to watch again as i was a bit distracted, but did they just say that the Great Escape happened?
Aren't they at the same exact POW camp that the Great Escape actually happened at?

Yes, Tom Dick and Harry were alluded to. Same camp

I hope this part was made up because Croz was married at this point in the war.
Part 7:
I think Rosie is my favorite character in the series.
Buck and Bucky had a few too many cringy lines in this episode. It’s crazy that the two main characters to start the show actually bring the show down.
I liked how they showed trauma teams and the physical aftermath after a bombing raid. Yeah, a plane may have returned, but you’re still losing lots of men off the flying roster.

I don’t remember from his books him admitting having an physical affair with his female friends. But I could also see why he wouldn’t say that in his book… he was definitely very close to two or three woman that weren’t his wife and it would not surprise me at all if he had a single affair (or multiple).
I like the trauma scene as well. Was disappointed in the camp scenes with buck and Bucky trying to make a radio. Also hated how the storyline for the guys who escaped and made it back via the resistance ended. Felt like we say the first 20% of there journey and then the very end- would have loved to follow them across occupied Europe.
What a freaking hero Rosie was.
Wish we were getting 10-11 episodes. Feel like the next two are going feel rushed and compacted (similar to this one) to get to an ending, but still stoked to see it!

Yes! I forgot to mention that. They could have spent additional time on that and less on the Croz, Oxford, and the mystery chick storyline.

You have no idea how big of an impact fighter cover had. This includes air cover for convoys (you can get a glimpse of this with Greyhound on AppleTV). Air cover repeatedly came up in the European theater from at least 1942 as having an impact on where the US was going to invade Europe or Africa first.
Our first fighters had about 135 miles of range. That presented a significant problem, and shaped the stages of invasion and war to come, particularly in Europe and Africa.

This show is incredible. I read some criticizing it to begin with, but I’m really liking it. That is all.

Yea my main complaint early on was what I felt was corny dialogue. But in hindsight I think it was merely Austin Butler’s corny arse. Show has been very good overall.

Total Soviet deaths are estimated to be over 25 million military and civilian. That’s insane.

And roughly 58% of Soviet POWs died vs roughly 1% of British/US POWs at the hands of Nazi Germany.
