I ask because I know they are so rare. Almost stepped on this this past weekend in central Texas.

Red & yellow kill a fellow

Definitely. God makes absolutely amazing creatures. I have never seen a coral snake. Although they are the only neurotoxin snake in North America, they don't have pit viper fangs so they can't deliver much of it in a strike, you have to be fricking around with it at a level 10 to find out about it. Or so I've read.
Awesome find, awesome pics.

They are everywhere near my house in west Houston. I’ve probably my seen 5 or 6 this year. I have seen more if them than moccasins and we live on a small bayou.

I have seen one from a deer stand in about 1973 near Mansfield, La. It was near the base of the tree I was in. I had to walk right near it.
Worked in the woods and hunted most of my life.
Don’t really look for snakes.

I've never seen one out and about in the woods. Great pic and beautiful snake

coloring seems right for a Coral.
They are usually pretty small and I can't scale it from the picture.

Red next to yella will kill a fella.
Red next to black is a friend of jack.
That’s how I’ve always remembered it.

I killed this one in pollock, La a few years back. That’s the 2nd one I’ve killed on my families land in 10 years.
I tried to upload a more clear picture but evidently this snake is like Bigfoot.

He was fairly small. About 2' long and about as thick as a shotgun barrel.
He was very docile too. I caught movement in front of my while I was walking and noticed him. He just slowly slithered away.

43 here, and at least 15 years where I was in the woods working every day. Still gonna keep looking for one.

I've been stomping around wooded and rural areas in SW Louisiana for most of my 61 years. Saw 1 probably 50 or so years ago.
