BREAKING: Hinds County polls will stay open until 8:00 after a shortage in ballots.

A judge granted the emergency order to extending the voting hours after a lawsuit was filed by the Mississippi Democratic party.

The @MississippiSOS released the following statement on what is happening in Hinds: #mselex

The Secretary of State’s Office is aware of ballot availability issues at Hinds County precincts. While our office has no statutory authority to print nor distribute ballots to counties, we have been in constant communication with the local officials to assist in relaying complaints from our Elections Hotline and have dispersed poll observers to the area.

For the General Election, Mississippi law charges counties to print a minimum of 60% of the active voter count. County officials then decide how to distribute ballots among precincts. While we are happy to assist in any capacity, specific questions related to ballot distribution should be directed to the Hinds County Election Commission.

Further, the Secretary of State's Office does not have statutory authority to extend polling hours. All voters in line at the closing of the polls are legally entitled to cast a ballot.

State law requires each county have enough ballots for at least 60% of voters. More ballots can be printed, but that takes time. With the lawsuit and emergency order, voters will have an extra hour to cast a ballot tonight.

@magnoliatribune is expected to have an update from MS Democratic Party Chair Cheikh Taylor at 7:00 p.m. #mselex

Supreme Court may step in:

BREAKING UPDATES: We are hearing from a direct source that an appeal has been filed to prevent the extension of voting in Hinds County.

It will be up to the Mississippi Supreme Court to determine whether or not the 8:00 p.m. extension will be allowed. The source says poll worker have been instructed to segment out votes that are cast after 7:00 p.m. #mselex

Hinds county is a dumpster fire of corruption so let’s see how many extra votes this buys them.

Not corrupt. I know the commission. They are THAT dumb. Seriously.

Split precincts don’t help, especially with dummies such as them.

1. I told y'all this morning that Jackson was pulling some shenigans when I saw the busses.

2. I wonder what the Ms Supreme Court will do when poll workers don't seperate votes casts after 7:00 from votes cast before 7:00.

Could have just left it at that.

There is a reason that Jackson (Hinds County) is called “Jafrica” and it isn’t fully racial… it’s about tribal corruption.

It’s amazing. How do you run out of ballots when you know how many voters you have. There are no more rules any longer. They just print ballots and create the votes they need to stay in power.
