JV + Kira + lottery protected 24 lakers pick for Daniel Gafford + 2 2nds. Pels get young athletic center on a good multiyear deal and get under the cap. We also need seconds... we gave away a bunch in the Graham trade last year.

Wizards get off of Gaffords contract and get a pick and cap space.

I love JV but our defense could be next level with an athletic rim protector who can move his feet. On offense you could have Gafford screen and rim run.

You may be able to get Gafford without the pick.

Carter would be another option but I think the Magic want to keep him.

Of course Turner but thats a little more pricey and I think he is expiring this year or next.

Allen but he costs a lot more.

Also Robert Williams but injuries.

Crazy idea what would it take for the Jazz to make Lauri available?

Val wins us games. Not many can bump with him. He was one of the main reasons we beat the Grizzlies. It's just a great advantage and he's really durable. I wouldn't mind a one year extension (if he'd take it)..

I cant agree with sending out assets for a decidedly worse player. I just don't see that logic.

They are going to trade JV to get under the cap. They also have to extend Trey this offseason.

You need a cheap athletic center who can play defense.

JV is a better player than Gafford. But Gafford would fill a huge need on defense and is cheaper.

I admit I wanted to trade jv at one point but he has grown on me, if Zion can stay healthy this team could be special, I do think we need a big who can defend but someone like that can be gotten in free agency. This team is one of the deepest in the league when healthy, jv is a big part of that. I was a little upset we didn't make any big trades this off-season but in hindsight I think Griffin was right, when healthy this team is as good as any 1-10

Maybe you could do a similar trade with less protections on the pick and swap out Larry for JV.

Either way you are not going to be able to afford a 17-20 million dollar center once you pay Trey.

JV is a better player than Gafford
Then we don't need to send them a 1st to swap the players.

We cannot trade this pick with any protections because we have a deferment option to 2025, so thats the first problem with your proposal.

Then why are Wizards getting a 1st round pick AND the better player? If anyone should be getting a 1st in this deal it should be us.

Bingo

And we can't underscore enough that it's not like it's super close, Jval is decidedly better than Daniel Gafford. Even if you think Gafford is the better fit, you don't trade the better player and give up a 1st. We want the better fit, but they want the cap space.

This is why this season is so crucial to the future of the team. If injuries happen again a trade will happen, but it won’t be JV or role players going out, it will be BI IMO because we already have a replacement in house for him with Trey.

If it goes good, we’re paying Trey and JV will come back on a team friendly deal and we are paying whatever tax it takes, because this team is a contender.

How about

Nance + Kira + Lottery Lakers Pick for Gafford

Because that actually makes us better.

What we need is to draft a Kessler type late in the lottery.

I think the real move is when Trey gets back we go

Zion
BI
Trey
Herb
CJ

And have JV come in with CJ minutes. You have a good High-Low action against bench players.

I think we should genuinely try to avoid JV/BI/Zion minutes together.

I’m going for rob williams instead of gafford. But I’m trading Larry and a protected 1sr for him. Larry is injury prone so I would rather keep a reliable JV in addition to Rob Williams

You say this, bur you want to trade him for a guy that’s even more injured all the time?

AND give up a draft pick in the process?

Yeah I’m not gonna pair 2 injury prone guys in Larry and Rob. That’s a recipe for disaster.

If we keep winning I think you leave it alone. The guys seem to really like Jonas. Mess around and get a big who thinks he deserves the ball more than Z and BI. JV knows his role and plays hard

My point is you’re trading Larry who you say is injury prone for a guy that’s even more injury prone, and giving up a draft pick to do it.

This would be a ridiculously negative trade for us.
